Hello Jack:
Not a bad price on that sign. It depends on what you are going to do with it. For a sign to put outside or in a shop not to bad. But if going to add to a collection save the $200.00 and put it towards buying a vintage mint sign. The key to building a awsome collection is buy less and buy mint signs. I started out buying rough signs and slowly upgraded. I wish when I first started collecting that I would have put that money toward mint signs in the begining. Good luck on your buys.

I think Eric's brother reproduced this sign. You might be able to buy it still. I think his web site was soda-signs.com. But i am sure Eric will chime in

Not a bad price for a 1940s era sign.. but like Rod said, if your looking to build a good collection fo signs, hold out for the better ones, pay more for them, but they will mature in value.. or should.
also this sign, is nice, but VERY large and takes up alot of valuable wall space if you are looking to buy more signs down the road.

just my two cents.

good luck

I agree its a great price. I prefer to buy signs like this. I like it to look like it has been used. I would take a sign in this condition over an NOS anyday. but that is all personal preference.

There is a small draw back to near perfect signs in the modern era of reproduction signs. When an original is too nice it can easily be confused as a reproduction.

Here's an example of a very nice original sign, so I thought, that turned out to be a reproduction. Thank goodness I only paid $10.00 for it.

My guess was that there is a date, but no manufacturer name or initials.
OTS - Is there some reference book for petrol signs and collectibles like Petretti's for soda?

We repro'd that sign a couple years back... smaller and out of aluminum... embossed them and dated twice so not to be confused/mistaken as an original... an orignal is larger, steel and not embossed. Sold out of that one.. that's a 1942 I believe.
