Just saw a preview of Pepsi's Superbowl ad. A young Jimmi Hendrix choosing between a Coke Vendo 81 D and a Pepsi VMC 81. Watch for it.

What a great add. Where did they get the machines?
I was happy to see they chose the all blue version for the pepsi and the white top for the coke. What is everyone's take on this? I love these old machines so much. I drive my wife crazy whenever I see one. How about a section for soda machines in the movies? Anyone ever notice the vendo 23 in Caddyshack? How about the white top pepsi 81 in the store window of American Wedding. I was also woundering if we could have a section to post photos of our soda machines that we have in our homes. I have an 81 and use it everyday.
It is in my basement with my pool table. Anyway, maybe they will list the "props" on ebay that they used for the commercial like they did with the Britney memorabilia. Then we will see the most expensive pepsi 81 in soda machine history!!! Love this site and thanks again, jeremiekadzik

Jeremy, I also enjoyed the Pepsi commercial. Speaking of soda machines in movies, there is a great scene at the beginning of Texas Chainsaw Massacre where the fat boy stops at the gas station/BBQ joint (the combination of these two is trouble enough), and jerks himself a coke. The movie takes place and was filmed in the early 1970s...I believe fatboy jerked his soda for 2 bits (still with the handle crank)...cool..too bad he wouldn't have the time to enjoy "the pause that refreshes"  '>
Also, The Natural with Robert Redford has a coke junior (I think) in the candy shop where he meets Glenn Close...the movie takes place in the 30s I believe, but if you watch closely, in the top windows, you can see 1960s fishtail logos....so much for authenticity..am I a soda nerd? damn straight!!!!

The Superbowl ad started with "Seattle 1953" Both these machines were actually produced several years later. They also would have looked much less aged than these two well preserved originals.
The crank handle on the Coke machine was stuck in the down position, on a multi-million dollar commercial! Still I enjoyed it a lot.
Guess I'm a soda nerd too!

I too drool over the old machines. And, I enjoy the Pepsi commercials. Which irratates me to no end. I am a confirmed cokeaholic. I have my first coke machine, which I will slowly restore as I finish some other projects. I collect commerative coke bottles, to the tune of over 2,000. So why hasn't Coke fired their current ad agency and hired one that will put out better commercials?
It would be interesting to see a listing of coke machines in movies. Any one that has movies they enjoy and watch over again, would have a new dimension to look for in the movies. Enjoyed the postings. And guys, now days its not bad to be a nerd.

Glen, I missed the handle turned down..I'll look for it again...for another coke machine movie, in Rebel Without a Cause, James Dean is picked up by the police and brought down to the station..while locked in a room, he looks out a hole and off to the side, you can see a Cavalier 33, ship wheel machine..it is only there for a second...

The movie Punchline, with Tom Hanks and Sally Feild has a Cavalier 72 predominantly displayed behind the actors backstage through half the movie. Empty beer bottles sit on top of it, indicating it's prime purpose.

Some time ago, I ran across a site that had a listing of movies with old soda machines... I can't remember where though as it's been a couple of years now...
As far as visitors posting their own photos on SMC, I'm thinking about implementing this and have been looking into a couple of software systems that can accomplish this in the form of a "Vistor's Photo Gallery".
On another note, I'm going to be working with Steve (aka racerX45) to gather information on Syrup Dispensers so this information can be available to everyone in the near future...
Ironically, with all the hoopla regarding Janet Jackson, we still cut through it all find time to locate an old soda machine or two... Now that's dedication!
