Neat pepsi crate

My grandpa gave me this a little while back and I thought I would share it with you guys. My great grandparents used to own a grocery store and this must have been left over from the store. My grandpa had it sitting in the basement and said I could have it. The neat thing about this is that there is something written on it and it is signed by my great grandpa. I can't make out what it says but I can read his name. Here are some pictures.

Nice crate looks well built ..I think it's really cool to know the history of an object, to me that adds allot to it's value especially when that history includes family.
I know this might upset the purest out there but, I think it would look nice refinished and maybe used as a magazine rack etc... that way you can enjoy it and it will be a rememberice of your grandpa.... beats it sitting in a basement....

I have a Vernor's crate I am using for that same purpose, it works great as a magazine rack.
I'd try to clean it, but not sure how to go about resotring, or even ifyou'd want to restore it. The crates were built to take some pundings, i think the aged and weather look only adds to the character .

What no Atlas pop cases ? LOL . I wish I keep the ones I had.... but that's like allot of things I got rid of because at the time I didn't know what I had... The one that hurts the most was a 1962 AMI Continental jukebox "they were so cool" (
http://chud.com/articles/content_images/117/1962AMIjukebox.jpg
) I got for fixing a neighbors car But a younger dumber me traded it for a old dirt bike that last all about a two weeks ..I'm sure that jukebox is still around somewhere.

If you find the Conti, let me know, I have a customer wanting one.
An Atlas case would be cool, but the ones I've run across saw much better days, and they were asking crazy proces .
Oh, the lower side Coke crates, used to hold 6 packs work really well for CD storage
