Would putting a box of baking soda work at getting rid of that "old" smell in my machine? Works for refrigerators at keeping the smells down so I was wondering if the same would work for a vending machine. Right now it kind of smells like my grandparents garage.

All I know is that as soon as I changed that nasty old insulation out of my machine the smell was gone. It stank!

Awesome I am going to have to try both. As soon as I get some free time I am going to replace the insulation, door gasket, fan shroud and fix the rust on the bottom of the liner.

What you're smelling is type of mildew that also lives in the pores of the galvanized tank & shleves (and sometime in the insulation if it got wet), don't use chlorine bleach at all on galvanized metal as it will attack the zinc plating, you can pickup a bottle of mildew-away from a marine/boating supplier, it's non-chlorine based & is safe to spray around the inside of the machine, remove all of you bottles & spray the top and the bottom of all of the shelves, the tank & be sure to get the seams & under the evaporator coils ( don't spray the electric motor though) & wipe down the door-liner & the door seal inside the folds...
It should reduce the odor, & as mentioned before, a box of baking soda helps too, it's the cold-damp environment that encourages the mildew & condensation in the door-liners insulation also will grow it. modern refrigerators have an additive that inhibits mildew/mold growth built right into the plastic, also commercial 'fridges have stainless liners that prevent most "cooties" from growing on it's surfaces, but once something spills, it provides a friendly spot to start the growth.

Spoon-feeding Newbies since 2001... Yeah..220,221 whatever it takes. Remember, all it needs is a shot of Freon! The Vendo V-83 is the '59 Edsel of the coke machine world. ;p Spray painting does NOT restore a compressor 11 is louder than 10... "Hope" is good, but it's not an action plan.

I found that a pine cleaner such as Pinesol worked well at killing the mildew, and the smell in my V63...

I think I am going to just stick to the baking soda. I got a vendorlator 165 with the serpentine tracks and those look like they will be really hard to clean out.
