is this a good upgrade for the coinco 9800a or do i need to look for the 9800b

a MARS TRC6800 will work fine in most machines so long as the machine gives a "ready to vend" signal on pin#7 of the jones plug, (some earlier Lacrosse's don't) you can set the price from 5-Cents up to $10.00 & it will accept U.S. $1 coins & it may also be set to accept Canadian coins, it can also be programed to accept a Token.

Just make sure it works before you buy one, they are reliable coinmechs, but their "slug-rejector" is electronic ( metal detecting type) & if it's unplugged from the main coinmechs CPU board, it will forget all of it's memory ( IE: what's a valid coin & which aren't) & it will have to be re-programed. you can download a manual from MEI online (MARS is call MEI)

thanks for the info,it may be more trouble than i want . i may just keep looking for a good 9800a or b because i will keep machine set on 50cents

I don't believe this is a true statement - You can unplug the rejector and it will hold it's memory. I used to carry unplugged spares in my service truck all the time. Plug them into a working mech and away you go.

thanks i would hate to have to re program one. i see they everywhere on ebay and everyone states they are ready to go.

if you unplug the electronic coin detection (slug rejector) with the power on, it will scramble the memory, it's cautionary statement, if you buy a MARS 6800 or similar mech, from someone who did this, or worse, if they mixed rejectors between mechs. but usually retuning the mech's will fix the problem.
