WHats a good price for a just paint and dent resto. I might be able to do it for $300-500. Is that good?

         Material cost is over $200.00 no matter what machine you are doing. If you want a quick and cheap paint job remember ...........you get what you pay for!

We use either House of Kolor or PPG DBC paint and by the time you figure for good quality filler, etching primer, high build primer, base coat and clear you are looking at $400 to $500 in materials alone. Then you have to figure in time. I charge between $1,200 and $1,500 for a good paint job but it will be show quality. As everyone said you get what you pay for. A $300 paint job will look like a $300 paint job. With a $300 paint job you are getting very cheap paint and little to no body work or prep. Most places that do inexpensive paint jobs will paint over dirt and not block it at all. If you don't block it the flat panels will be wavy just like a car with a cheap pain job. They are also not sanding and buffing the machine so you will have orange peel and little shine. If you are able to do the body work yourself then you may be able to get away with it. If you have the skills to do good body work and prep work then you might get a nice paint job for $300. I have had machines painted by Maaco and other cheap paint shops in the past and I did all of the body work and sprayed my own primer. I then did all of the prep before it went into the paint booth. When it was done I wet sand it and buffed it myself. I have had good results that way but now that I have a shop to use and have used the good paints and have seen what a great paint job looks like I will never go back.

if you just looking to clean it up and put it out back by the garage , then sure. 300 paint job is fine , or for that matter a spray can.. but if it's a gonna be a full blown restoration, get it done professionally.

if it is for the garage or man cave a good paint job with  acrylic enamal will be fine and you can but the paint for $80-$100 gal .buff it out and most people will not be able to tell them apart. that is what i painted my 55 chevy with ,but i was not building a $100,000 show car. base coat is great if you want to spend the extra money

Sure the single stage paint will do fine however you still need good filler, etching primer, high build primer, and then the paint. Your still around $300+ in materials and I am sure that is how your did your 55 chev. I doubt on a black car you didn't do any body work? It just shows you what you get with a $300 paint job. NO PREP!
