Anyone know if that trick with the quarter tied to a string would work in my machine? My roommate wanted to try it and asked if it would work. Told him I was not sure. It is a coinco 9800B. Just curious.

All depends whether your rejector has the string cutter on it. Once the quarter passes through the rejector it trips the switch. Right above the quarter exit on the rejector is a spring steel piece - that is the string cutter. To work, it should be more of a thread than a string.

It wont work with a 9800 series as the coin-switch itself is too far down into the coinmechs body & cant be pulled back up through the slug rejector with out breaking the string .

cool thanks guys. Glad to know it won't work and now I don't have to worry about him trying it and possibly breaking something. I all ready take the key home when I go home for the weekends because the first week I had it he reset the price on the origional mech and all my problems started after that.
