This machine is at 595.00 and I am no longer the highest bidder. No longer have to worry about with withdrawing bid. Am I missing something

Better withdraw your bid anyway. His friend can and will cancel his bid and leave you stuck as the high bidder.

Fake bidding, (I know there is a fancy term for it but I don't recall it), is when a person is selling an item and wants to help drive up the bids artificially, he does this by having a friend or family member bid against other legit bidders, hoping the legit bidders want the item bad enough to continue to bid on it. If this friend or family member wins the auction it isn't an issue because the seller can just keep the item and repost it later because he knows his friend or relative isn't going to rat him out to Ebay.

This is also done at the big auto auctions. Payed bidders are inserted into the crowd to bid on an item that has a reserve in an attempt to stir up interest in the vehicle. This is done mainly on vehicles with rather sluggish bidding activity. Since the vehicle has a reserve and the payed bidder knows what the reserve is, all the payed bidder has to do is remain below the reserve in order to stay safe.

There are lots of little tricks to win at the auction, some require money (being the highest bidder) and some require patience and observation.

I watch items all the time in order to see what is in demand and what isn't. And if I see something I want I wait until the last minute to bid, or better yet, the last second. But if I really want and need the item I just bid high. I bid the most I am willing to pay and let it be. And most of the time on ebay I am out bid by just one dollar. Oh well, such is life.

I learned all of this the hard way, by paying to much at the auction. And I still get suckered.

Fake bidding a.k.a shilling.
And not everyone auction where the current bid is higher than one would expect to pay is a planted bidder.

I did withdraw. It was at 595.00 and when I withdrew it went down to 560.00. Why did'nt it stay at 595.00. Thats what the guy placed for a bid. Steve

The guy who outbid you (with only 2 feedbacks) needed your bid of $590 to get the price that high. Since you withdrew your bid he now is sitting with the 2 highest bids on that machine. This was shill bidding, look at the bid history.

The $550 bid below was the next valid bid to beat since you withdrew.
