I'm new to this but I picked up a cavalier today and after it ran for about an hour the coils have frozen over...I have it set on the coldest setting...is this normal...if not what's wrong with it?

Put it on setting number 3 and see what happens.  That is what mine is set at with no problems.

MY 64 is set on 1 and it holds the temp in the low 30's.  I would be afraid to turn it any lower--I would have a mess on my hands.  I'm sure those other settings are necessary for a machine outside in the hot sun.

What else causes these to freeze?

Welcome to the board!!
Mine is at 3 as well. Is it full of product? The fan in the cabinet should run all of the time.

I was going to suggest to check the fans as well.  If you haven't replaced them it is worth the investment.  our thermostat could be bad as well.  Both easy fixes.
