I'm new at this, great site. I ran across this machine by luck several years ago. It was buried in a warehouse I cleaned up several years ago. I hauled it up to my warehouse and decided to bring it home to clean up. I have verified it is a Vendo 81D, large coin door, spring loaded sheves. etc. All of the 81D's I have seen have the white completly all around the top of machine. This has only top of door white. The other thing I am baffeled about is the serial # on tag says 81A. This is great machine and I have talked to Rod (funtronics) about restoring Anythoughts Steve.

Someone took a Vendo 81 A and replaced the front main door. Not sure why they would do that, but that is what happened to your machine.

Yes - everything inside is the same - almost everything on the front door is different except maybe the linkage.

Does the 81d D door on the 81A machine hurt the value. What color scheme would you recommend.

I would two tone it, The only real difference would be the no trim on the A cabinet, and all A's had large vent cabinets and D's had the split vent cabinet.

The color scheme is up to you.  If you plan to flip it, most people ( myself included)  prefer the two tone, there are many who like the solid red.
The trim could be added to the body if you decide to go two tone

Assuming your keeping it as is and not going to try to find another a or D model to swap out doors/cabinet, then I'd paint it like a D should be and two tone it.. trim can be added and the louvers I don't think are a big deal except for a purist.. everything else is the same...
If you have Rod restore it for you, he'll make it look right!
Good luck!
