Kicking out coins

What would make my coin mech kick out coins? It seems to randomly kick on and drop coins. I can sit in the rec room and here it hummmm. Then, ka chink, ka chink, ka chink, out drops the change. I keep trying to reload the mech, but after a while it kicks them out. I have the manual somewhere, but haven't located it yet.

What kind of mech is it Dan?  It could be the circuit board going awry, have you tried clicking over the inventory switch to see if you can get it to stop?  Otherwise, unplug it for a bit, then plug it back in.

Yes. Coinco 9800 it is.

johnieG, is it relatively common to rebuild the logic boards?  If its the one diode, it seems like an easy replacement.  Have you done these before?

then the logic board is faulty, it controls the 12-volts that drives the payout motor, when it goes bad, it will cause the coinmech to turn into a slot machine, or cause it to give out "ghost" payouts, it will also cause the coinmech to give incorrect change. time for a repair.

not as simple as it appears, the problem is when the zener diode goes bad,  it usually destroys multiple components on the circuit board, & yes I have been repairing these units for about 10 years now, ( and no I won't divulge my my hard-earned trade secrets  )

So, would you recommend having that repaired, or replacing the mech?
