I am considering restoring my Cigaromat machine.
Looks pretty easy for the most part - I have not gotten too deep in the vend mechanism yet, but I have played with it a little and think I got it figured out!
How should I go about restoring the plastic "Cigars" logo and plastic Coin Entry bezel? The logo looks OK with a few broken posts on the back, but I think I could Liquid Nail it to the front after painting. What about the print "Nickels Dimes or Both" on the coin entry bezel?
Any help appreciated - thanks!

I just finished mine.  When I bought it, the paint was already restored a few years back.  I just had to take the mech out and figure out how it worked.  It is a cool machine because all the sections come apart as subassemblies.  The only problem that I had was figuring out how one cigar was fifteen cents and another one was ten cents.  My machine would only work on 15c.  There is a little 6/32" screw that needs to be screwed into the front sliding bar to make the machine vend on a dime or two nickles otherwise without the screw it is a straight 15c machine.  I have pics if you need them.  The screw is the same as some coin mechs.  I used a stainless 1/8" x 6-32" shoulder bolt.  It worked nicely.

As far as the plastics, I would leave them alone.  If you must remove them, the plastic tips in the back, would probably have to be ground down.  Curtis has done a few.  I'm sure he can throw some pointers out to you.

If you need any pics, let me know.  This one is still fresh in the brain.  I finished the cigar a month ago.  On to the Roulette......

Thanks Larry!
From what I have been able to determine after a brief examination is that I believe you can set the mech for anywhere between 5 cents and 35 cents. I haven't looked at it in a few weeks, but there is the set screw you mentioned and also a filler slug.
I will post more on the mech later as I get into it.

Larry,
I just went out and refreshed my memory somewhat.
The first pic shows some shoulder screws with rollers just to the right of each selection cam - notice the one on the left does not have one. When that selection is chosen, the slide bar activating the nickel feeler is not engaged.
The second picture shows the coin retainer with a filler slug that you can position in any of the 3 holes.
Right now, my mechanism is not configured properly as it vends on a dime or nickel and my display says 10 and 15 cents. a combination of these settings effect what it will vend for as best I can figure...so far.

When my shoulder bolt is out, my machine vends for 15c (3 nickles or 1dime and 1 nickel).  When the bolt is in it moves that gizmo (nickel feeler) and tricks it into thinking there is a nickel there and then the machine vends for a dime (2 nickels or 1 dime).  I do have something that looks like a slug on mine, I don't remember where it was located exactly.  I'll look at some pictures when I get home.

Larry,
Do you have any pics of your vend mechanism before and after restoration?

I'm glad you said that about sub-assemblies - I might have figured that out on my own as it is pretty simple, but I have been known to take (and put things back together) the hard way!  veryangry
I broke the subs down this morning in about 15 minutes. I'll need to get the camera out for the rest.

I only took pictures when I was taking it apart.  You can still see where the dime, the slug, and the nickels go.  This would use three nickels or one dime and one nickel to vend, unless that screw was in the front, like you showed earlier.  With the shoulder bolt screwed in, mine vended on a dime or two nickels.

The only clean shot I had was of the sub assembies.

Hey Larry,
Did yours have a coin box? Could you post a pic and give measurements?
Mine did not have one with it, but I'm sure there was one at some time.

Also - mine has a bracket sticking out from the top left of the cabinet. Nothing was attached to it - is this for hanging a humdifier or something?
And lastly, one of my columns is shorter than the other two and has a slightly different setup at the bottom - are yours that way?

Thanks!

Hi Tom,

Here are some shots of my machine.  I have a bar extending out on the left inside area of the cabinet, plus I had a flat piece of steel that pivoted on the back of one of the sides of the innerds.  It was useless and got in the way when I put the guts into the cabinet so I removed it.  I don't know what either are for.  It is similar to the flat bar that allows a Stoner gum machine to move forward, without the insides falling out of the body, while you loaded the gum in.

All my stacks are the same size.

The coin box is 7 1/8" W x 2 3/8" D x 2 7/8" H and the back wall is 5 9/16" H.

I bought this on Ebay a few months back after I sold my six pull.  It is an older restoration and it had the original stand.  It had a few paint chips by the door, but the guy mixed me up some matching touch up paint.  He had some car shop back East somewhere.  This was in his lobby.

I put gum and chocolate in mine.  The plastic window was in great shape.  Usually, they are all scratched up, yellowed, and cracked.
