I have a Vendo 63, its from somewhere in the 1960's, all red, no wood paneling.

Anyway, I've had it for 6 months, worked like a charm and then all of a sudden Saturday it smelled like it was running hot and I looked and the condenser fan stopped working.  So I unplugged the machine right away.  Coincidentally, when I unplugged it, the third "prong on the cord came off the cord.  I doubt this is related but wanted to mention it.

I pulled the compressor/condenser tray out and I can't tell anything, everything looks normal with the exception of dust everywhere.

I guess my question is, is there any chance the cord had anything to do with the fan not working?  Any other common causes or fixes?  These things don't look easy to replace.  The cord to the fan motor goes inside the compressor so I don't think I can just pop a new one in.

Any help would be appreciated, I have had to resort to drinking soda from cans for the last 48 hours for crying out loud.   '<img'>

The condensor fan can easily be replaced. Contact someone in the Parts Suppliers Section to purchase a new fan motor.
The cord to the fan terminates in a little junction box on the conpressor; open it and disconnect the leads paying attention to the location they are connected so the new one can be connected in the same manner.
If you have the refrigeration unit out, may I suggest blowing air through the condensor coils and everything else for that matter to clean the system from all the dirt and debris. By ensuring the coils are clean and can breathe better, the system will be able to cool the refrigerant more efficeintly.
As far as the "third prong" is concerned, this is the grounding wire. The machine will function without it but for safety reasons I would replace the cord as well! This cord probably terminates into the same box as the condensor fan so you might as well fix everything since you'll be in there...

To get the junction box open, a 1/4" drill bit will cut the small end of the large rivet holding it together.

Okay I got the new fan motor on the fan, now I am trying to get the junction box open.  The only thing I see on the outside holding it together, is one screw, which I have taken out.  The box is still on there solid, where am I supposed to be drilling??

Randy,

Once the screw is removed, the cover will come off.  It sounds like your may need a little physical effort...
Try tapping it with a small hammer so it comes loose; not hard enough to dent it though...

Randy,

You have to think positively!
Is there an ID Tag on the condensor plate somewhere identifying the manufacturer, if so what is the information on it...?
I'm not at home so I can't look in the manual at the moment, but over the weekend I can gather some info...
Do you know if the compressor works or haven't you got that far yet...?
