Can you give me quick run down of the connections??  I have to connect the Compressor power cord (1 hot & 1 neutral), and the Condensor power cord (1 hot & 1 neutral).  (Do I take both of these neutrals and wire nut them to the black wire with the eyelet you labeled "Line Neutral and Cond. fan neutral" ??)

That leaves me with the HOT wires for each left.  It looks like the Condensor fan Hot wire gets connected to that tab...correct??  Anything else get connected to that tab??
(You also make reference to the thermostat Line Hot on the diagram.... do I need to connect a thermostat wire there??)

That leaves me with the Compressor HOT wire....where does that go??

Also, tell me more about the "solid state 3-in-1 starter/overload unit"....where can I buy one??....how much do they run??...is the change over complicated??

You can get a 3-in-1 at Grainger supply, or almost any HVAC supplier like APPCO here in Michigan, check your local phone book, they run around $20.00 (aprox.) & it will simplify your wiring alot! here's how to hook it up, the one you get may be different, it comes with instructions too... JohnieG

I got everything wired last night.  It seems to be working correctly.  The Condensor Fan shuts off if I turn the thermostat off, and the Evaporator fan runs all the time.

Are there any other tests I should perform to check anything??

It may need freon...it doesn't seem to be getting cold.  There is some type of valve on one of the tubes for the Compressor...is this where I would add freon??  What kind of freon do you recommend??

Alwright! but it's not getting cold you say? Hmm... are you sure the compressors running? fell the side of the compressors housing is it running for sure?  the valve you see is probably an old "clamp-on" service valve used at one time by someone to check/recharge the system, the problem is they almost always leak!  '>  , the proper coolant for your unit is (was) R12 however you'll have to find a service guy who still has a stash of it, as it's no longer sold in the USA, there are substitutes that are direct replacements, such as R409, R414A/B (Hotshot is one brand name) that won't require a new compressor assuming yours is in good running condition, I would suggest that the system be service with the old R12 (if anny remains) be recovered by a service tech. & the "clamp-on" valve be removed & a new service port soldered/braised onto the line, & the system, evacuated & recharged with the new refrigerant of choice, have you thought of giving Eric of Global Compressors a call?, he's a real pro & does a top notch job, but first double check your compressor & if it's really running

When you say "feel the side"....what am I "feeling" for??  Cold??  Vibration??

Also, the service valve does not appear to be a "clamp-on" device...how do I tell??

You'll feel a slight vibration and warming over a little time to know the compressor is running...

As far as the service valve is concerned, clamp-on valves wrap around the tubing whereas soldered-in valves are usually a "T" shape and smaller in size.  Hope this helps a little; I wish I had photos of each style for display here...
