Although the early model square corner cavaliers were also CS's. Yes the 12 is the number of selections. The USS model machines were made somewhere between 1974 and 1982. Your machine is just a taller USS-64. The manual for the USS-64 is available.

Thanks for all the info. I have a Pro coming out to look at it, as it's blowing the GFI or breaker. The mechanics look rather straight forward, but not as simple as my trusty Vendo-83! I'll leave the refridge unit to the Pro.

Have found no manufacture date stamped anywhere in the machine. Mod # is 1USS-96101, Ser #437066. Refridge unit has a metal plate stamped: CAV-816 6 85 and #584275. Any clues there? '>

You have narrowed the problem to the wire feeding the compressor or the lower fan motor.
        First remove the cover from the compressor and you'll probably find a  pinched  or bare wire.
       Wiring is being discussed in another post, change those wires before you pay a pro to come out and do it for you.

Thanks Glen. The Pro Guy said the compressor is a sealed unit. Not being a HVAC guy I wouldn't know the difference. I'll check it though.

yes, the compressor is a sealed unit. It can be recharged if needed, but not serviced. As far as age goes, its not really that important. A square top is a square top for age concerns. Paint schemes and logos may change through the years, but the 95% of the components are all the same.
