Long  story  short, Cold rainy Saturdays, disapointed at an estate auction, we stopped ramndomly at garage sales on the way home. One sale had a sign, check our pole barn for more stuff. Stuff was right,  some junk, some good stuff, and the 2 things I bought, one shown below:

The phone is an Auto Electric 40,  and an old photograph that struck me as cool (it appears to be a  family portrait taken at a wedding, circa 1920- 1930's) set me back $1.00.

The pic shows the chorme rubbed off the dialer, but the rings on the hand set  are in perfect shape.

I think I did good  ':<img:'>

Sweet phone! phoneco will have all the parts you need to restore it and use.
That is the only phone I have that's not a Western electric... I have it hooked
up to this computer... It doesn't have the fancy chrome
around the handset like yours though.....
It should buff out like new! Want to see pics when you get it working!
Great score!

Thanks Eric, I've dealt with PhoneCo before, and can't say enough good things about them. I may make this my winter project.

I still kick myself for what was there, but I passed up. an old national cash register, I kept looking at it, but too many peices were missing, and I wasn't sure how hard they would be to locate, or how much the parts would run.
Maybe I'll go back nextweekend, they had so much stuff, I am pretty sure I missed some more good finds.

Lesson of the day; the shabbiest looking garage sales may have the best stuff
