I got the evap fan running on my cavalier 96d the compressor doesnt come on i dont even hear the starter clicking to start the compressor. I should install a 3 in 1 hot start and go from there right? The refridgerant lines are clean no oil anywhere I dont think its lost its charge its a sealed system never been recharged.I think my problem lies in the starter for the compressor any suggestions?Huh?? hopefull

Have you tried to bypass the temp. control, does the condensor fan run at all?

No I havent could the thermostat could cause the comp not to start I didnt think of that. This machine has been sitting about 15 yrs without running Ive read sometimes old compressors need extra help starting if they have set a while.

I bypassed the switch no fan but i need to pull the fan out and check it it may not work my dad had the machine he said it quit cooling but the comp did run so the fan may have been the problem in the first place.

Usually the compressor & the condenser fan run at the same time unless the compressor is kicked off on the over load or bad wiring. They are both controlled by the thermostat.

Before you replace the condenser fan, try hooking it up direct to 120 volt power.
The big question is why does the compressor not start? Do the same thing and send voltage straight to the 2 terminals. If that doesn't start it, then try the 3 in 1 relay.
