Well, I stopped by to check out this game tonite.. It reminds me of something that Sears would have sold years ago when Coleco was out. It was coin -op space invaders type of game. It almost looked like a Space Armada from Intellivision... Anyway, the monitor had a huge red band through the middle of it. It didn't hinder the play, but looked horrible. It was even visable with the game off.
I passed on it.. I've got too many toys right now anyway...

There were a ton of Space Invaders pirates out there (Space Armada was one).
The red band probably is supposed to be there. In the older black and white games, they would put color bands on the screen to add color (think Breakout). Check out this pic from KLOV:

Interesting... I would have never thought of that... It definitely didn't look good. I couldn't imagine it being a selling feature.

If my memory serves me, Space Invaders Deluxe had a three color, well technically two color, laminate that had two color bands along the top and bottom with the center clear.

But...put your self back in the late 70's when there were
only
black and white games - the color bands were an improvement.

I don't remember the SI deluxe game... When I started pumping quarters, it was in the mdi 80's....Dig Dug, Pole Position, and that generation. Asteroids and SI were still around, but not the top dogs anymore.. I don't remember the colored overlays, but that must have been what it was.. It did add a color to the game, but it was only a 3" wide band in the middle of the screen. It looked like poop.
