How do I know the compressor is OK?

How do I know that the compressor is not damaged from oil getting into the wrong areas after I moved the machine around?

Last night I moved my machine with a hand truck, tilting the machine maybe 45 degrees. Without thinking I plugged it in when I was done. I know that you should let a machine sit for a long time after putting it on its side on a truck or something, but since I was just moving it around the garage I didn't even think about it.

It still gets cold but I'm afraid that I may have caused some damage that I won't realize until later. Would I know right away if oil got anywhere it wasn't suppose to? What are the symptoms?

I have moved alot of machines and never had a problem. How long was it at a 45 degree angle? Only being tilted I don't think would be enough for the oil to escape or at least enough oil to cause damage. They usually say that for every hour on its back or side it needs to be upright for the same amount of time so being a 45degree angle for 5 min wouldn't be much. If it is working now don't worry about it. Anyway if it caused any problems it is too late to do anything about it now.

Yes it was only like 5 minutes. And it is working nice and frosty. I just didn't think about it at all until it was already on for several minutes. I just wanted to make sure that I didn't damage it, even if only a little.

You would have to leave the machine on it's side or back for a long period of time in order to hurt the machine.

Welcome aboard davet426 & Saguaro,
 As Josh stated, I would let the machine sit upright for at least one hour that it was on it's back or side. Saguaro you shouldn't have any problems with yours from just moving it on a dolly at a 45. davet426 is your machine getting cold? I think I would unplug it for 24 hours just in case.  '>

I just checked it and no it's not getting cold, If you define cold as I should feel quite a temperture change in approx 5 hours. I felt the coil under the machine as well as the copper tube going to the unit inside the machine and they are not cooling either, at least not to a frost or anything. I unplugged it as you said, and will try again tommorrow. Is whatever I may have done fixable or will something need to replaced? It is a Cavalier CS80-D. Shoulda read a bunch of these forums before I touched, but that's what happens to us know-it-alls! AWESOME SITE!!! Thanks for the help!
