I saw a discussion on another board how most things are going to increase in price - especially things packaged in plastic.  This made me think:

If the petroleum prices continue to rise and stay high (I personally think the prices will start to drop in about a week) will it become more affordable for the soda companies to start using glass again instead of plastic?

I'd love to see more glass bottles, but I doubt it will happen:

- People prefer the convenience of plastic bottles. In Michigan with our bottle deposit law, it is so much easier bringing in a bag of plastic empties than a bag of glass bottles.  Not to mention less breakage dropping a plastic bottle than a glass one.

- Plastic is easier to dispose of than glass.

- The cost savings going back to glass may be offet by the cost of installing new bottling equipment to handle glass bottles

I for one would love to see more glass bottles (and cane sugar instead of corn syrup, but that's another topic) but sady, I don't see it happening.

Not going to happen,  Glass is dead imo.  I think you would see more of the aluminum bottles that are starting to come out if pet gets crazy expensive.

My wife just bought a variety case (15 bottles) of Boylan's at BJ's Wholesale Club for $9.00 which isn't too bad.

Boylan's is good stuff.  I really like the creamy red birch beer.  I do not buy it much,  it runs about a buck a bottle in these parts.
