Whats up guys,

I really enjoy this site, and have learned a bunch about this addictive hobby from all the posts.  I have a few basic questions on one of my machines.

I have a Glasco slider which is complete and running.  I was given the chest, and was able to locate all of the missing parts (rack, shelf and coin mech) on Craigslist for real short money.

I replaced the cord when I got the machine, and it fired right up.

I finally got around to mounting the rack in the cabinet.  This took a little bit of work, the old rack must have been literally torn out of the machine; there were only holes on the inside of the liner.  I was able to use plastic inserts and stainless steel machine screws, and the rack is mounted back in the machine.  Finished up mounting the coin mech, and the slider is back in operation.

Now my questions;

I have had the machine running for several hours.  It was originally at setting 7 on the thermostat, and was 31 degrees inside.  I turned the thermostat down to setting 2, and it is now 3 degrees inside.  What temperature should I try to maintain at the bottle rack?

Does the chest run continually, or will it shut off when it reaches temperature?  I have it in my office, and although it looks great, it is a little loud where it hasn't stopped running.

I have read in previous posts that it is common for the rear wall to frost over (which mine has already).  Will the frost continue to build up?  Do these have to be defrosted once in a while?

Lastly, I cleaned the interior of th e chest, and clened out the drain tube.  Should I expect to have anything draining out of the machine?  Should I keep a drip pan under my slider?  Did the Glascos come with drip pans?

Thanks for the help.

First of all, good to see you posting Flippa.

GREAT job on making that slider a wonderful useful machine again. I never see soda machine parts on CraigsList in Minnesota. And I even put an ad on there regularily about paying cash for old Coke machines.  :-(

Anyway, I assume the above is a typo? You didn't really mean that you had it down to 3 degrees did you? If so, I wouldn't want any glass bottles near that, they'd explode like "bottle"-rockets.

But regardless, I've always heard that 39-40 degrees is a nice temp. for most. I like mine extra cold, so I keep mine at 36-37 degrees.

Best of luck and great job.

Hope I don't sound too naive, but what is CraigsList?

Flippa,

You don't want to freeze the bottles!
What is the lowest setting on your thermostat knob, 9...?
If "7" cools to 31 degrees, attempt to regulate the cooler to obtain around 35 - 40 degees which might be a setting of "8"...
If "7" is the lowest setting(meaning warmest), them perhaps someone has replaced the thermostat with the wrong temprature range...

My six cents,

Or the thermostat could be bad. It should not run all of the time. The frost does build up but it takes some time to build up. I unplug mine and let it sit for about an hour about once every three months or so and the frost just falls off in a big chunk.

So it should shut off after cooling to a set temperature.  Good, I was worried that it was going to be a lot noisier that I expected.

The thermostat indicates that the higher number is, the cooler the interior should get.  I turned the thermostat to setting 2, and the system shut off.  I have left it for several hours (after taking the beverages out) and it has warmed up to 50 degrees.  I will check it in the morning and see if it maintains this temp.  The experiment continues…

I guess that it will take a little more time to dial this thing in.  Loman4ec may be correct in stating that the thermostat could be bad.  Is there a way to test the thermostat, or should it be replaced?  I guess that these problems should be expected for a 45 – 50 year old refrigeration system.

Well, a little adjusting and the slider is working great.

It was turning on and off alot, however after filling the empty racks and cooling shelf with bottled water, the machine hardly turns on at all and maintains 38 degrees inside.

I had a misprint on my earlier post; 1 was the warmest and 9 was the coolest setting.  I have the thermostat at setting 3, anything higher and the interior dips below freezing.

Any thoughs on the drip pan?  Do I even need one?

If I were you I would just find the drain tube and use a mason jar.

Those masons, they sure were good with jars. '<img'>

I agree with Josh.
