I'm looking to respray the plastic bottle door on my Vendo 39.  I'm all for leaving things original and unrestored but to me, patina doesnt translate well on plastic parts.
What type of paint for this Bakelite part?

I think the Hammered Silver looks good on this part.

Would it be possible to powder coat this part?  Its plastic but it seems heavy duty.  How hot does the PC process heat up the parts?

Hot... Bondo/Body type fillers can't stand up to it... I think it would warp/distort it... I'm with Signguy, I would use Hammertone
would look awesome...

About 400-degrees F...the "plastic" is actually a type of Bakelite phenolic resin & it will be destroyed by that type of heat.  Hammertone Silver looks fantastic on the bottle door anyway, don't over engineer the process. also beware it is somewhat prone to brittle with age, so don't pry on it or drill into it to aggressively. it WILL crack or shatter. and easy on the drilling pressure as the aft end of the drilled hole will try to blow out when the bit drills through the door. treat it like working with glass...

"Hope" is good, but it's not an action plan.

Before you paint it, also give it a light sanding and apply a thin coat of plastic primer.
(The same type of primer used on plastic automotive parts like bumper covers, trim etc works well)

Thanks guys!

Lots of great info as always.  I will do silver paint or Hammered Silver.  I need to hone my spray bomb skills though.   smile

it's pretty hard to mess up with Hammertone... because of it's nature, it covers flaws.

practice on something first if uncomfortable and I'm sure youll be happy with the results..

read the can.
