Vendo 39 compressor noise

Hi Gang,
I have a Vendo 39 that I've been working on. The compressor has a fairly loud metallic rattle when running. Is this normal? It seems to be louder than similar vintage refrigerators etc. The unit seems to cool well, still has its factory seals, and cycles with the thermostat. The evaporator fan and start/run relay are new as is the wiring harness.
Thanks for the help,
Chad

Chad,
Did the machine make the same noise prior to the evaporator fan replacement...? Can you isolate the noise to the refrigeration compartment when you open the cabinet door...? Your V-39 might have a cabinet door switch that shuts off the evaporator fan when the cabinet door is opened, so be sure to look for this should the noise stop when you open the cabinet door provided the noise is generating from this area...
As simple as this may sound, make sure everything is properly tightened down to keep things from vibrating which could cause noise. I'm not sure what refrigeration system is installed, but check to make sure the compressor is isolated from the mounting plate properly and that nothing is broken such as springs or rubber grommets...

Thanks Jim,
Yeah it has always made some noise - I now have it on a hard surface floor in the kitchen so I think I am hearing it more. It is definitely the compressor as the noise changes as it runs - it starts soft then gets louder as it picks up load. I've checked all the lines and the evaporator fan for vibration and this is definitely coming from the compressor.
If I have to replace the compressor at some point am I hurting the value of the machine to go with a new compressor? I doubt I can find one that has the same look of the old Kelvinator

Thanks,
Chad
