I believe these are called "Victorian" something or others.. I have had some in the past that had an ornate wood frame around them where the plate was in the center and removable.. I got big $$ for it years ago like 1800.00  I think the plates alone are still worth some good money if in good shape..

Somebody had a nice collection of these as there are a lot of trays listed. The topless tray already has 12 bids to a little over $3000!
