Question about...USS 12-96 access door ???

Hi I just pickup up a Cavalier USS 12-96 and while cleaning it I took a good look at the  inside of the access  door and  the inside glass on the right hand side isn't touching the frame it's sitting on a gasket /spacer foam of some sorts.  Is this normal or am I missing some trim or something? Can anyone that knows please reply Thanks Ray  ...... see pics

That is normal, the glass is held in on the top and bottom with two U-shaped brackets.  There are 3 panes of glass, with the layers separated by the foam gasket.  If you ever feel the need to pull the glass out, you take out the screws on the outside of the door (to the left in your top photo), then pull the L-bracket out of the door.  That is all that is really holding in the glass.

Thanks for taking the time to reply and the advice,  I really appreciate it. Since,  I posted I ran the machine and I'm  getting condensation built up on the inner pane of the right hand corner where it exposed to cold. I think the problem is the warm air is leaking in where there is a gap in the foam  gasket. I think I going have Pat Pixley reseal it. Next when cleaning the pan where the evaporator sits I uncover a pin hole. Debating my next step: do I pull the compressor to resurface the whole thing or do I work around it ??

You can de-rust it and paint over it with a product like POR 15. It is self-leveling and will seal all the pin holes - becomes hard as rock when dry.

Thanks, Looked POR 15 on the web it seems made to order for this type of application and I think I going to order the $19.99 kit in silver.  Will putting masking tape over the screw holes be good enough to keep them clear? 

Still debating if I'm going  to pull the compressor... to new at this game to feel comfortable doing it myself.

Silver is good! You'll only probably need to paint the bottom and maybe 1" of the side walls. Read the POR 15 instructions and follow them!!! You get this stuff on your skin and it will be there for weeks. Also follow the storage instructions and it will last for years.

You will need to pull the compressor to paint the bottom of the liner! You'll only probably need to paint the bottom and maybe 1" of the side walls. Easier to rewire, replace fans, T-stat and harness (and I'd spend the bucks to do it while you got it out. Think of all the work you've done just to access the area!

I wouldn't do the masking tape - just POR right over them, just don't allow the stuff to fill the hole (keep a toothpick handy). As I recall, I didn't have any problems with it filling the larger holes. They are usually sheet metals screws, so they don't have much of a thread issue anyway.
