Title: 1970's pepsi machine
Post by: james woz on July 20, 2005, 01:32:37 pm
I have a 1970's pepsi machine with 5 soda selections (choice vend). One of the selections when a coin is dropped in the wheel (auger) keeps turning and dispenses out all the soda's. one other selection when coin is dropped in wheel only turns a little bit and needs more coins to get soda to drop. Is there any ajustment for wheel rotation? Or is some part broke. (See image of soda machine)

Welcome aboard James.
Do you have a picture of the vending mechanism?  It may help the people here see what you have better.

My choice vend does the same thing.

Hey

Just an idea

Use the multi drop selection only when you first start your party & then only use the two coin selection when you are ready for your guests to leave.

Not real familiar with this type of machine... does it have vertical dividers that the cans stack into, or does it use some other sort of internal mechanism?  I know I've run into this problem with an older vendo, which has a motor that turns a cylinder in the stack, which vends the cans.

In front of the motor, there's a two piece plastic cam.  By adjusting the cam, you open either two or four detents into the wheel.  That way, you could vend bottles (using two detents) or cans (four detents).  Vendo makes it easy, the cam parts are red in the back and white in the front.  To change all you need is a screwdriver.  (That's a great design - I currently have a Royal that uses plastic clips you snap out of the cam wheel to block detents, which really makes things a pain to switch back and forth)

Might be worth a look.  Otherwise, there's far wiser heads out there on these machines that may know some specifics I don't.

Choice vend is a tough one to find parts for.

They are no where to be found unless a machine is torn apart for the parts and placed on ebay.

One word - YIKES! I've seen several different mechanisms, but that one really has me stumped.  Jasmine is probably the best chance of an idea of a fix.  Good luck, it looks like a great machine and will be nice once you figure out what is probably a simple fix.  Hang in there, someone out there knows an answer! :hopefull:

I know JohnieG is familiar with aligning the vending augers on Choice Vend machines...
I haven't searched for this topic but I'm sure something will pop up since this has been discussed...

Yep! That's a typical mechanism failer for a ChoiceVend, what's happening with the column that vends continually, is you have either a broken index gear, or a defective/stuck index switch, the gear & switch is what sets the vending cycle on a ChoiceVend,

The augers can be adjusted to vend either 12oz. Cans or glass bottles (you didn't say which you are vending, I'm assuming Cans).

Yes, I'm using cans. Do you know where I can get the index switchs from?

It's likely the gear. Mine goes through stages of running and stopping. Now all its doing is maybe half a turn then stops. Doesnt drop cans from one column any more.

looking for parts is a pain.

Here's a link to Veii, they have some parts for these machines, but keep in mind they are obsolete vendors...

Make sure you preload your cans. There is a small metal switch under the columns. Press any sold out switch, and then press the button until a can come out.
