Post by: HI-OCTANE on June 04, 2018, 06:20:20 pm
How do I know which refrigerant to use  on a Vedo 81  It looks like it has  a newer style compressor  ?

Open the service valve & stiff the escaping gas deeply, if you hear Elvis calling you to the light, it’s R12, if you see Gerald Ford, its probably R134..  :tounge:

Basically whoever installed the new compressor should have labeled it to identify the charge amount & the type of gas used. You could look up the compressor’s model number & see if it is a R12 or R134 unit, but it doesn’t guaranty what gas was put into the system, maybe the seller knows.

the green label on the side of the compressor should say what gas it's rated for, looks like an R134 unit, but like I said, you never know what someone stuck in it.

The charging port may be the clue for 12 vs 134.
