Title: WD5 drain question
Post by: chris in Bama on January 07, 2018, 05:32:49 pm
hello all,
Just about done with my wd5, installed the new compressor & evaporator, divider panels & grates. I have a question, when I removed the rubber drain insert there was a slim metal washer associated with it. I don't remember how this assembly goes together? does the metal washer sit in the bottom of the tank hole or does it fit around the funnel rubber insert groove?  I tore the original when trying to remove the retaining ring but was able to glue it back together.. :help:

I believe the rubber "funnel" is inserted into the drain hole first, then the thin washer is place inside the opening of the funnel into a grove to provide a solid backing for the snap-ring that slightly expands the rubber insert & it retains it ( the rubber drain insert) in the metal drain hole.

most Westinghouse chests use this rubber drain insert as do many of their uprights like the select-a-matics.
