Title: Glass Condensation Jar Post by: Zerbie on October 15, 2017, 10:29:11 am I purchased this item and the gentleman thought it came out of a Jacobs 26 machine. Does anyone know how this unit was setup? Where did the electric source come from and was the purpose to evaporate the water that would build up in the jar due to condensation? What machine(s) were these applicable to? Thanks in advance for any help on this.
Title: Re: Glass Condensation Jar Post by: johnieG on October 15, 2017, 03:26:30 pm He is correct, it’s the lid & electrodes from a Jacobs condensation jar, the rods are carbon and (are supposed to be) insulated from the lid, they had line voltage across them which would evaporate the condensate water by passing current through it, functional if not downright dangerous. These lids are often so badly corroded they just crumble when you attempt to disassemble the jar for cleaning.
You could restore the assembly for looks, but I wouldn’t attempt to wire it back in. The same can be said about mechanical coinmech heaters, hazardous for home use. I can use the jar and the bracket in my Jacobs 56 and leave the lid off. All of the Jacobs 56 setups I see just have the jar & the bracket with no lid.
