Title: 7up 81 / 88
Post by: BONOVOX on October 13, 2017, 03:22:11 pm
Thanks to Jeff for calling me on this 81, and for Bob for getting the machine closer to me!

I kind of stopped posting all my buys the past year or so, mainly because they are getting repetitive
..... you've seen a Vendo 81 you've seen them all

BUT..... I think this might be the first picture ever of a 7up 81 together with a 7up 88

Plans are to get the 7up 81 restored asap... and I thought about restoring the 88, BUT after testing the top corner of the machine to see how it would clean up, I've decided that because it is such a RARE RARE machine, I'm keeping it original as I think it will clean up fairly nice...... .as they say "it's only original once".

I agree, I would leave the 88 as is.

Yeah, as is, but with a good flitz cleaning..... I've yet to clean it at all since I got it.... just no time.

And when I do have time, I'm tired
And when I'm not tired, I'm lazy
When I'm not lazy...... my wife has a job for me to do, and the cycle above starts all over again

Thanks Buddy...... she's a keeper

I have over 20 machines, some hard to get ones too.... several rare coolers etc..... but the 7up 88 is bar far my crown jewel of the collection.
If you ever see it for sale for $ 250 on Ebay, it's because I'm dead and my wife has no clue

So I started to clean the front door of the machine with what little FLITZ I had left (gotta get some more from Amazon)

It's coming out pretty good... but it's taking a LOT of time to buff out the surface rust as it seems to be really baked on.

I did the "7" but not the UP just to see the difference, and on the angle picture, I did the back top corner (that was the first corner I did to see how it reacts to the paint)
I also tried to use my buffing / polishing machine set on low speed, but I found that it just wasn't working as well as good old fashioned hand rubbing (that's what she said).

If the temps get too cold to be in the garage, then I'm bringing the machine to the man cave to do a little at a time while watching hockey lol

That's gonna turn out nice... will be worth the work (or in your case the workout) you're gonna use a lot of serious elbow grease
in this but it's gonna be worth it. nice survivor for sure. :happydrinkers:

It looks great.  I am just curious did you wash down the machine with soap and water first and the use Flitz?  Also, did you actually use a buffer with flitz or just hand buff it?

I didn’t know that Flitz worked that well.
I can’t wait to see how the bottom front turns out. Hurry up will ya?

I only hosed down the machine and washed the compressor area.

Although it takes away the rust.... it doesn't take away the scratches or dents lol
The bottom should look better after I uses Flitz, but don't expect miracles

I remember using FLitz on another machine with my buffer at 1 (out of 6) and the Flitz can work a little too well, and it will take off the paint pretty quickly.
I find hand use to be the best with it.

Thanks Ed for clarifying.   The machine is looking really nice.
