Title: Jacobs 56 door closure
Post by: Zerbie on May 23, 2016, 10:09:30 am
 :help:
I recently acquired a restored Jacobs 56 and noticed that the door seems to bind up slightly on the hinge side when closing and screwing in the door. I'm assuming and attributing this to the new gasket? The door will close and I can screw the door shut.....but it takes more pressure on the door that what i believe is necessary to begin to screw the door closed. Once screwed closed, the bottom right corner of the door doesn't align perfectly with the bottom of the frame case ---it's just slightly off.

I'd like to relief some of the pressure that it takes to close the door. Any tips/thoughts/ideas on how to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated!

Thx,
Zerbie

Is it a new main door liner?
If so, the liner may be tweaking the door. You may try to lay the door down on a moving blanket and tighten the screws in a criss-cross fashion (similar to auto wheel nuts) to try to even it out. Or maybe enlarging a few of the holes may help.
This is what I've read done to correct similar issues.

Hi "Collecture",

Yes, it is the main door gasket. Thanks for the tip!

I saw in the coin mech area that you're the guy that can restore coin mech's (top notch work no doubts?)

My coin mech on my Jacobs 56 needs some work. Any advice on how I proceed to see if it's repairable and what a quote would be?

Welcome to the Board!

It may help to cut angled pieces out of the inner gasket on the corners to reduce "bunching". Pics would help if possible.

When "Collecture" restores a mech it is better than new. Best to use the PM function for specific quotes. Any questions just ask!

Hi Creighton,

Attached are four pics of the door.

One pic is taken at the top hinge side so you can see that the door is connecting at that point.
Another pic shows the position of the door at the time where you have to start to apply pressure to start to latch the door.
Two other pics show the inside view of door gasket and breaker strips.

Hope these help explain the issue. Let me know if any other pics would help

I'd like to give a BIG shout out to "Collecture" for helping me get my coin mech in working order. Thanks for a job well done! I couldn't be happier.
