Title: Tokheim 86
Post by: MoonDawg on August 30, 2014, 07:17:05 pm
A customer came in yesterday to pick up a restored 81 from us. It is to go in his 4 car showroom with his classics.
Then he picked out a slider to be restored to put on the other side of the room.
He asked if I ever come across gas pumps, and I told him 'very rarely'.
Well this morning a couple of tatooed apes came in and wanted to sell a gas pump.
I knew nothing about the value of this farm pump and I still don't.
I felt safe paying $250.00 for it, but asking our gas guys what would be a fair price to charge my customer?

Wow, I know zero about gas pumps but that is very cool. Looks so short and love the rounded edges/corners.

Farm pumps can be hard to sell. $450 is fair for both you and the buyer.

Agree on $450, that's about top of the market for a farm pump. I'd add some branding, definitely a reproduction porcelain door sign, about $20 and they make mini globes if you want to go the extra mile. The globe will pretty much kill your profit margin though

All good advice. Ditch the side filter. Front door decals are not much. Vics66 has repo 13.5" globes for $85. You would need to drill the top for the mounting kit and run wiring and a light socket. Customer may or may not want a globe. Curious, how does an ape get a tatoo? Might check that it is not hot before any work is done.

Just got my first pump. A Wayne Model 80 still with internals. Heavy and ackward buggers, eh?

For a farm pump a 13.5 inch globe will look awkwardly large. They make fantasy mini globes specifically for adding bling to a farm pump. I think they're 9 inches or so.

Not having the dimensions of the pump guess I made an in correct suggestion. Carry on.
