Title: Finally finished my second Popperette
Post by: Larry on September 17, 2009, 11:14:41 am
Well, it's been a busy year.  I finished the two Stoner Jrs., two Stoner gum machines, one superior gum machine, a Northwestern dual nut machine, and now this Popperette.  I still have the Vendo ice cream machine left to finish up..... maybe in a few weeks.

Anyway, here are a few shots of the Popperette. This is one of the later models that had the double kick cam and the heater light.  After I finished it, I had to try it to make sure it works.  It works fine, but now I'll have to clean it. :Oo:

Larry you did a FANTASTIC job. I wish I had one of those. All I ever find are soda machines, and don't seem to run across a lot of the odd stuff.  Great Job - CHEERS !!!!  :drinking:

Thanks for the kind words.

John, you can stop bowing now.   I agree, I like machines restored to their original condition without all the hoopla.

But then again, Jeffs Keeney coffee and Curtis's Stoners look better now than they did with the original paint scheme.  I know my Stoner's were copied from Curtis designs when he was with BITW.

I know where to go if I need any help with mine- Larry and John. You both made them look new again. They almost look like little space men with the glass on top.

I just left Larry's house let me just say that has to be one of the nicest popperette's I have ever seen.  That maybe the first 5k dollar popperette.

It didn't take too long.  I know I started to strip the cabinet in June when my kids were still in school.  I was working on three machines at that time.  I did the two stoners, when they were neary done, I woked on the dual nut, then the Popperette, then came along the ice cream machine, so considering that I had some major projects going on, I would say three months.

My first Popperette I took apart, cleaned, buffed it, and wired it in a week or two.  My big draw back is waiting for the painter to do his thing.

Bob send me a P.M.  I had your email before when I was chating about your Popperette, but I since then I have deleted it.  What close ups are you looking for?  I have two versions of the Popperette.  The mercury cam switch version and the relay version with the double kick cam.

I just got a chance to look at the pictures again.  Very nice restoration job.  I also like the Little Nut Hut on the table in the background.

Leonard, you are killing me with that. :Oo: :tounge:

The nut hut is N.O.S.  My neighbor, when I was a kid, use to sell them in the sixties or seventies.  I never knew that.  One day I was at their new house, twenty years later, and they had one on their bar.  I said, "Wow, that's pretty neat."  That's when they told me the story of him selling them.

The next day their son came over to my house and handed me one.  He said he had a few left over in his old boiler room.  I was pretty surprised and delighted by that jesture.

I forgot to mention that this Popperette has a rewound motor and it is smooth.  Thanks to Colamachinesandmore for finding the shop, droping it off, and picking up the motor.  TWICE!!  :Oo: The first time it had the wrong rotation.

Cool! It's good to know that found a shop around your area to do it for a reasonable price.
