Title: My newest DP item Post by: collecture on September 16, 2009, 01:00:57 pm I thought this would look cool, so I again traded Randy Mitchel of Nostalgic Restorations mech work for painting. He did a phenomenal job. I have a little work to do on it still as the new paint makes it a little difficult to get open, so I need to loosen some things up a bit.
I had all the parts re-plated or anodized or polished and last night got everything in place. I still need to put the actuating knob on - it is down being re-chromed and is done, so I just need to pick it up. Whenever I get my DP 81 done :hopefull: , this will mount next to it. What do you think? Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: Jim on September 16, 2009, 01:08:18 pm Very Kewl ! ! !
Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: coke_and_stuff on September 16, 2009, 02:17:53 pm Looks great Tom, The last time I seen that it was in primer in his shop.
Joey Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: Larry on September 16, 2009, 02:20:11 pm Very neat! Does that use the vendo crank handle or a knob?
Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: collecture on September 16, 2009, 02:30:38 pm Does that use the vendo crank handle or a knob? Originally it was a knob and the knob is what I had re-chromed, but either will fit and could be switched easily at any time. I chose to go with the knob because the crank handle interferes with the CHANGE lettering on the front and the knob doesn't. Will post another picture when it is all done!Maybe I'll take two pics and let SMC members vote on which option - knob or crank? Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: Ltransam on September 16, 2009, 02:38:06 pm Knob Or Crank ??  Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: collecture on September 16, 2009, 03:22:50 pm Here is a picture of it with the crank - I would need to get one chromed of course, but you get the idea.
Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: Chedki on September 16, 2009, 06:12:18 pm Definitely the knob looks better.
Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: Sodak Bob on September 16, 2009, 06:33:53 pm Tom - You were right, it turned out great. The knob is the way to go...
Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: Larry on September 16, 2009, 06:39:30 pm I like the Standard brand changers. I have a dual one, and a single one. They actually made a triple changer and an electric version too. They are very cool, but heavy.
I like the handle too. That picture didn't show up on here, or at least for me, but I know what the handle looks like. Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: Hollywood80 on September 16, 2009, 06:42:48 pm Beautiful piece of equipment in this "newbie's" opinion. I prefer the crank for FYI.
Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: mznb1u on September 16, 2009, 09:56:08 pm Very high on the cool meter! Knob will also look better than the crank!
Nice work! :drinking: Tim :drinking: Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: halehouse on September 16, 2009, 09:58:08 pm I vote for "knob", so as not to block the "change" text.
Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: Cokemachinesandmore on September 16, 2009, 10:14:56 pm I agree knob,, who doesn't enjoy a nice knob job once in awhile
Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: collecture on September 16, 2009, 10:40:46 pm I agree knob,, who doesn't enjoy a nice knob job once in awhile So far it looks like the knob jobs have it - but OTS - once they get the ring, the knob jobs seem to disappear! :down:Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: Funtronics on September 17, 2009, 05:43:27 am Looks great. I would have to vote for the knob. Is this a piece you did to add to your collection, or are you selling it?
Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: mrsoda on September 17, 2009, 09:41:12 am great job, looks very nice, keep up the great work
Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: Kilroy on September 17, 2009, 10:02:22 am i say sliding lever
Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: GreginNM on September 17, 2009, 11:43:59 am Looks REAL NICE, Tom! Hope to see it next trip out to Phoenix. I like the look of the crank handle, but not a fan of it covering the wording. So...as it sits, my vote is for the Knob Job! :tounge:
Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: collecture on September 17, 2009, 11:49:55 am Is this a piece you did to add to your collection, or are you selling it? At this point in time I plan on keeping it and hanging it on the wall. I don't have a lot ($$-wise) into it and my kids love to play with anything coin related. I hope to start my DP VMC-81 sometime this year or early next year and I want to put it next to it. Thanks everyone for the kind words - wish I could take all of the credit! i say sliding lever What is a sliding lever - you mean conventional Vendo crank handle? The turn knob that came with it looks like the picture below. It is my other original one Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: RC kid on September 17, 2009, 12:45:09 pm Wow! The things you guys find. Incredible, I have never seen one of these changers before this posting. I guess I am still relatively new to the hobby, even after all of these years of collecting.
I think I'll vote for the crank handle. Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: Larry on September 19, 2009, 09:51:14 am You know, that green looks nice on smaller items. Maybe I could get used to a DR. Pepper machine.
After all, I got use to the wifes picks of colors for my basement.......three shades of green. :Oo: Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: RC kid on September 19, 2009, 01:04:21 pm I got tired of everything being Coca-Cola red years ago. I have since ventured out and added other soda brands and Gas station signs to the wall of the garage. Much better environment, more pleasing to the eye, with the many different color combinations in the different signs..
Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: collecture on September 24, 2009, 10:04:38 am Here is a pic with the original turn knob and with the traditional crank for comparison.
Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: Larry on September 24, 2009, 11:03:45 am After seeing them both together, I think the crank looks cooler, but if you do not want the grahics covered, then the knob.
What do you think? Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: bubba on September 24, 2009, 11:25:35 am I think you should redo the graphics so the crank handle will work 8)
Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: MoonDawg on September 24, 2009, 12:23:11 pm I like the crank too! Maybe move the shaft hole so the handle sits lower?
Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: davethebirdman on September 24, 2009, 01:16:29 pm Gotta go with the crank handle too... DP never hit it big over here.. I love that green... Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: Cameron on September 25, 2009, 05:03:41 pm I think you should redo the graphics so the crank handle will work 8) I agree Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: Jim on September 25, 2009, 05:38:55 pm Like everyone else, I also like the crank handle; however, the knob doesn't impede the view of the graphics like the crank does... If you have to leave the graphics, then I recommend going back to the original knob... Just another 2 cents... But when tallied, it equals a dollars' worth of opinions...
Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: oscar on September 26, 2009, 11:47:39 am I still like the knob. To me it just looks like some one took a handle off of a machine and switched it out for the knob. The crank doesn't look right. Sorry, I'm just weird like that.
Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: collecture on September 26, 2009, 12:28:01 pm I am leaning towards the original turn knob, but I may try Glens suggestion of moving the pin hole on the crank handle to see how it looks. I don't know whether it might look weird - everyone is used to the crank being at a certain angle. I am pretty sure I have an extra clutch as I'd hate to ruin a complete crank assembly.
The graphics are there for good - clear coated over several times. Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: loman4ec on September 27, 2009, 12:05:35 am I also like the knob. I have however seen several of these original machines with the crank handle so I think they came both ways.
Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: collecture on September 27, 2009, 08:37:19 am I have however seen several of these original machines with the crank handle so I think they came both ways. I could be wrong, but I think they were two different manufacturers. Here is the only pic I have of the other model. Title: Re: My newest DP item Post by: Cokemachinesandmore on September 27, 2009, 09:18:42 pm I think the knob looks better, its a square machine, the knob is square and the chane bezel is rectangular. I think the crank handle throws off the whole geometry.
