Title: Kelvinator cooler Post by: Kapri on August 07, 2009, 08:08:34 am Hi guys.
Wondered if any of you can help me identify this Kelvinator cooler? Don't know if any of you will recognise it as I think it may be a European only model. There is an ID plate on it that says made in England, but I can't make out any model no's or serial no's. The general condition of the cooler isn't too bad, the bodywork is ok with a few small dents and some surface rust and the liner is corrosion free. The power cord has been cut off, and the thermostat control is seized up. It doesn't look like the cooler has been used for a while, and as it's the first time I've tackled anything like this, I may be calling on your expertise in the future, although it should be an interesting project. Any info will be greatly received. Thanks, Gaz. Title: Re: Kelvinator cooler Post by: Ginger Prince on August 07, 2009, 11:50:09 am hi gary,
i always liked the look of these and you do see a few of these around in england, im sure the mechanics are very similar to us machines in general and the guys will get you sorted in no time GP are you doing a full retsoration [paint etc] or just happy as it is when fully working? Title: Re: Kelvinator cooler Post by: Kapri on August 07, 2009, 12:00:26 pm Hi Neil, I plan on getting it going and doing a complete strip & re-paint. I've got a small compressor and some spraying equipment so I should be able to do it myself & finish it off with the correct decals.
Got a few other things on the go, so it may be a bit of a long term restoration though! Title: Re: Kelvinator cooler Post by: davethebirdman on August 07, 2009, 02:27:49 pm They are the machines I remember in the off-licences...

Title: Re: Kelvinator cooler Post by: Creighton on August 07, 2009, 05:35:38 pm Welcome to the board and great looking machine!!
>> What were the "off-licences"? Curious about this as well. Thanks, Creighton Title: Re: Kelvinator cooler Post by: Kilroy on August 07, 2009, 07:19:28 pm Think party, convenience store, gas station, etc. The store sells alcoholic beverages to be drunk "off the premises", Pubs, restaurants, etc are licensed for 'On Licence", or alchol is sold to be drunk in the establishment
Sorry, the company I work for has offices in the UK... Title: Re: Kelvinator cooler Post by: davethebirdman on August 08, 2009, 01:35:57 am Jim Almost text book definition... Off-Licences are a right of passage here in the UK... Biggest oldest kid would always go into the "Offy" to get the booze for eveyone esle.... Now Alcohol can be bought cheaper than bottled water from supermarkets and Offys are a dying bred.... Jim... Do you ever get to UK?? Mine is a bit smaller that that on, and lacks the lovely deco trim. Title: Re: Kelvinator cooler Post by: mznb1u on August 09, 2009, 02:14:32 pm I hope mine looks as good as Leonard's some day soon! Great looking machine!
Leonard--did you have the trim re-plated? Also can you post some pics of the inside of the chest? I know I am missing ssome sort of a cover for the water circulator. :drinking: Tim :drinking: |
