Title: Selectivend S48 Parts
Post by: loman4ec on May 26, 2009, 03:59:06 am
I am thinking about buying a Selectivend S48 to part out but I wanted to see if anyone needs anything from it first. I want the coin mech in the machine. It is complete and they think it cools. I am trying to decide if it is worth buying and if the parts are able to be sold. Please let me know if you need anything or if you may want the whole machine. If someone wants the machine I don't mind not having the coin mech and just turning you over to the buyer or I could pick it up and send it to you. Is there a market for these parts? I have never parted one out before and I have never seen parts on ebay before.

Josh - I have an extra S-48 coin mech
I think the Pepsi sign might have some value if it is not cracked

I'm going to pass on this machine. It is in Northern Kentucky if anyone wants it. I thought I may be able to part it out since parts are not available but after talking to some people I have found that there is no demand. Besides it is a good restorable machine. Someone may want it.

The only good thing about that coin mechanism as Tom knows, is that it is the
small mech. same as the small door 81's and the 39.......but has a change giver.
       Drop in a dime......gives a nickle back

From the instructional plate on the front, I believe this one is a common 10-cent mech and not a change-giver.
Some of these did have the nickel change-givers, but so did V-39's, C-51's and some V-81A&B/SD 110's.
They are uncommon - I have about 5 of them.

That machine looks identical to my S-48 Dr. Pepper, and mine has a straight 10 cent mech, no change giver.

I'm sure this one was Dr. Pepper in it's early life, as the Pepsi machines were P-47s.  I like these machines, but there isn't much demand for sure.  I still want to put a 7up and Pepsi next to our Dr. Pepper.  I think Brian will be helping me out with the 7up version...

Well this may be a S-47 as the seller never gave me a model number I just guessed. I had a 7up once and it was a good solid machine. I wish they vended more than small bottles or it would be a keeper.

I know that's the case with the Dr. Pepper and 7up machines, but I would think that the Pepsi P-47s would have to be able to vend larger bottles.  The Pepsi bottles of this era were always those bigger 12 ounce bottles, so the rack would have to accommodate that size bottles.  I've never owned one or seen one, so I don't know this for sure.  I just know from my many years of bottle collecting that I never found a 6 ounce Pepsi bottle.

I saw on a TV show it was because Pepsi bought a ton of old 12oz beer bottles for a fraction of the price they would have paid to make their own bottles. It allowed them to sell a 12oz bottle for the same price as or just slightly more than the 6.5 oz Cokes. Helped them gain marketshare.

My SV P47 only vends the smaller 6-oz. bottles, the rack isn't adjustable

Hey Tom,

I realize you have several coin mech changers, but do you have an original one for small door 81a/b that hasn't been modified to fit...? I'm going to dig mine out and see what I have and then I'll contact you... I might be interested in trading in plus some cash to acquire one of your restored ones, if you have one and secondly, would you possibly part with one...

I stand corrected!  Just haven't seen any of those smaller Pepsi bottles, so really wasn't sure what the P-47 would vend if not adjustable/different from the Dr. Pepper/7up Selectivends.  Thanks for the update!

This machine is still available and I can get this machine for $150. Is it worth it? That seems pretty cheap. I was incorrect about the location. It is just north of Dayton Ohio.

I would buy it for that price, if it were in my neck of the woods. The only thing is, once it is bought you may be stuck with it for a long time, as these machines aren't really in demand and the market doesn't seem to be showing any signs of relief anytime soon.

good luck

The Pepsi bottles I have are 6 1/2 oz. bottles that came with my Pepsi VMC 33.  I have seen them in the Selectivend Pepsi machines also.  I have the embossed 7up and the Pepsi one with the round sign on top.  I don't think I have seen one from the factory with that sign on it.
