Title: Stoner Theater Light Trim.
Post by: ducatihummer on April 09, 2009, 03:36:24 pm
I have two questions on my Theater. First what pieces if any do you chrome vs polish? Are the side pieces to the light chromed? (see pic)

Second, how do people tend to re-wire them. do you try and find the same style old stuff, or do you just use all new stuff from the cord to Light? I would love to keep it as original as posible while restoring, but I'm not sure if you can find the same stuff to fit.

Those "end cap" peices are more than likely stainless steel and should be polished. Much cheaper than re-chroming!

If the original wiring is cloth covered and you want to maintain a degree of originallity, you can still purchase it through a couple of different sources. you should go with 14ga or 12ga (your choice) wire.

Here is a link to a company that I would recommend:http://www.sundialwire.com/ (http://www.sundialwire.com/)

Thanks Brian for the tip.  I wonder if the wire is as flexible as the original?  It states that it uses a sheath under the cloth.  Did you ever use it?

I have always re-chromed the end caps, mine have never been stainless but not saying some might. If the person is going to keep the light on all the time, I by pass the original unit and put in a new unit with one wire and no ballest, less to go wrong later but I still add a new switch in the back, I have photos if you would like to see how I install the new light kit. memorylane@myactv.net

I don't think mine are Stainless, so I may end up getting them chromed. are there any other parts you tend to get chromed vs polished?

I'm not planning on haveing it lit all the time, just some nights, and weekends, or whenever I have friends over of course...

I would love to see a photo of how you install a new light kit and Switch. I was wondering if I could use the old box on the back and switch, but my switch is damaged, and the wires coming out of the old box are crap.

Thank you guys so much for your help.

Frank

Thank you very much. This is how I will do mine as well.

Is that a new switch as well? where do you get those?

That looks great, and helps a lot! Thanks once again.

I had used the original switch in this one but only because it was like new but Home Depot will have several to chose from.

I like to get the switch and light from a good electrical supply store as most of the stuff from home depot and lowes are made in china. I feel if it is an american machine made in the good old USA , then  you should get an american made switch and light.
