Title: How long do you hold a machine
Post by: Pat Pixley on February 26, 2009, 11:59:00 am
Ok I did this favor back in late oct. early Nov.  I picked up a a BIG coke cooler
for a member at this site I had my buddy JohnieG help me get this Monster plus
it was in his neck of the woods,  So I droped John off and I headed back home I thought I would let this member know that I had this cooler in hand and it would be waiting for him.

Well now we are into Feb. and  six PM later and I  have not heard a word out of this member,
So the question is , would I be wrong as to say this is now mine(OH Lord help me)  I had told him there would be a gas charge  of $25 to get this BEAST and now it is setting in my storage are  (Brother Inlaw Barn)  and I 'm at my limit  on space in there.  MY thought on this is to get it up and running and sell it to move it out.

So Am I wrong on this or not ??

6 PM's and no contact I would sell it. They have had plenty of time to contact you. I think they had buyers remorse.

It is a shame another member would do that to you!  :glare:
I'd let it go and hopefully you'll make a little money on the deal.
And then turn into soda machine nazi "No more machines for you!"

Maybe he has been locked out of the site? There have been a few strays that haven't been able to get in. I know Jim rescued one or 2 and I have as well.... Just a thought. Does the person have an email addy in their profile? Have they been to the site at all?

Ken, there is no email address left and to be honest  I think six PM's is plenty
and he was on all the way to Late Oct. early Nov.
I even Had Creighton send this person a PM to have him call me   and there was a
big empty nothing .

Pat, I would contact him one last time and tell him he's got 30 days to retrieve it. After thirty days I would do what I have to do. For what it's worth I have a few machines here that I haven't heard from the owner in 3+ years. They haven't been in the way but with 29 dirtbikes and still collecting I'm starting to need that space as well.

I think your right pat,
especially if the buyer has no money invested in it at this time... it's yours, and yours to do what you want to do with it..

I agree that is just disrespectful.

I say it is yours. You have tried many many times to contact him. I have a sign for one of the members on here that I am fighting to get from a former restorer of mine and I keep that memember in the loop of what is going on. No contact means your machine.

Can Jim get you info or a number for this person?...Sounds like he hasn't been on since you got it for him...
How can you tell if he's even getting your PMs? You could send a thousand
but if he can't get them that's useless.... Don't you know his name and location?
How did you set this up without knowing each other?
call information and talk directly to him.

I still have a machine I sold a guy last August.... I'm gonna haul
it to the Chicago show to a friend who will haul it the rest of the
way to him... I've contacted him and he's been busy... but does business
with this friend of mine so we set it all up...

I would talk in person to him... something could be wrong...

Well here is his last post .

(on: October 21, 2008, 06:21:14 pm
If anyone wants this machine you can have it I am still on the mend do to a setback and cant pickup but the owner needs it gone from his porperty so if anyone here in MI wants it let me know. I paid for it, but at this point I just want it to not be junked so I would rather see someone get it then a landfill.)

And he has my number and my personal e mail address  . I do know his name
and location.
I have gone out of my way to contact him and and made the drive  From the Lansing area
down to the Detroit area  when Gas was up to $3 buck a gallon , Then there is his last message (above)  and I even made the offer to take it to him and he said  No.

And like I said I'm out of room (storage  area )there and I'm sticking them at my office which is not a good thing right now and I have one more machine that will be showing up in a week or two.

So now there is more info . the same qestion applies.

Pat,
It sounds to me like he didn't want the machine at all! He was just saying it is paid for and whoever wants it - take it before it gets junked.
I would just do what you want with it and hopefully get your gas money back.
Good Luck!

Him saying “If anyone wants this machine you can have it” and him telling you
not to bring it to him is a good sign that he doesn't want it... Looks like you got a
machine for just going and picking it up.... SCORE!
Now work on your brother-in-law for more space!

Pat,
I'd think that it is your machine at this point. But, I'm not an attorney. Start a file with the details (CYA). I'll testify if need be. Just cost ya a burger and coke at the MI. Mafia hangout :-).

Coming in a little late...
Everyone registered has to have an email address; however, if they change their email address and don't update this info with us, then contact via email may be a dead end...

I'm with Kilroy!  List it on E-Bay for at least $5,000 because I have seen these restored go for upwards of $12,000!    Jim--I got a good laugh out of both of your posts--"he's not dead"--long day so I needed the laugh.

But seriously--Pat I think that machine is yours.  I offerred to pick that machine up as well--glad I did not.

I agree that its your machine. I would never expect someone to hold a machine that long. What a rude person. You say this was a member?

It does sound like the bloke isn't well... So maybe the machine and the board are the last thing on his mind...

The last post was clear.... Its yours... Lets just hope that whoever the person is is going to be well
enough to get back...

Don't know if you covered your gas money??? If there is much left over I'd just keep it to noe side
Just in case....

Just my (Large old English) Pennies worth....

I am not sure who this person is but for doing something this wrong to a member I think he should be banned from the site. That is just wrong. We are kind of like a big family here and that is just something that you do now do. I would delete his membership. Just my two cents. I may be wrong.

Um, that's a bit much. what happened or didn't happen is between two people, if fraud or improper usage of the SMC, email trolling  or any phishing  scams were comitted, I'd  say a ban would be  more than fair.

I agree. I wouldn't get any more machines for him though with him prepaying! We all run into tough times, it is understandable. Definitely yours though

Ok I'm sorry that was a bit much but that really makes me mad that someone would take a friends time to go pick up a machine and then not even contact him about it. Besides your PM's he should be contacting you. If I asked a friend to hold a machine (especially one that size) I would do everything to get it out of his garage and into mine and for every month that I didn't I would call to at east apologize and make sure everything was OK. I understand that everyone has hard times but what this person did is just plain rude and Not friendly. Pat went out of his way to pick up a huge worthless machine for this person and they just forget about it. I don't care how hard this person's time is a call only costs pennies now. Heck an email or an sms would  do.

Your right about that, he should have called. I am just saying he might be embarrassed because he is broke or something. He still should of manned up and called, I agree.

So what is this thing? An incomplete Coke machine or a glass door cooler?
Either way, it has been abandoned. If you can sell it you would get less than that
good working compressor is worth.

I say......pick your parts off it and scrap it!

You know Glen I thought about that,  Just parting the darn thing out
but there is only the compressor :upside:  I think I'm just going to get it home and give it a good wash and wax And A new service cord and wheel it out in my drive and put a for sale sign and sense I live right on a busy corner :upside: it should go.  Josh Don't feel bad for what you said I am mad at this member  and probably wont do this again for him but I will  do this for any other member.
