Title: My DIY Cav96E sign on restore Post by: vintage_car on February 22, 2009, 03:40:06 pm I have looked for the original sign for my Cav96E...couldn;t find it, or found it and they wanted a mint for it. So I made my own! I'm a DIYer, and although the sign may not be original to the machine...it might still be "original"
The steps I took... 1) I took 3/8" plexiglass, removed the protective film from one side and cleaned the plexiglass. 2) Next I took Gloss White Rustolem paint that is made for plastic (Fusion, I beleive) and painted the one side and let dry. 3) The next day I measured the frame opening and cut what I needed from the plexiglass with mutiple passes of the x-acto knife. 4) I then removed the film from the opposite side and cleaned it. 5) I applied an original Coke water transfer decal to the non-painted side. I centered the decal and made a couple marks with pencil to show where to place the decal. 6) Let it dry another day and put it in the frame. I found the original water transfer decal on Ebay. I put a vinyl decal on the white then put the thin clear in front. It looks like the vinyl is painted on. It looks great! They make vinyl that is special for light up signs that lets light through.
