Title: Westinghouse fan motor modification Post by: collecture on November 21, 2008, 02:56:15 pm I know some members here have had to do some modifications to get a new evaporator fan motor to mount onto a Westinghouse chest cooler, so I thought I would post this.
I had a guy call me to help out because I was local. He has a WD-10 and, as most know, the replacement fan motors that are available now will not mount to the original Westinghouse set-up. What I did was drill holes on the side of the bracket that lined up with the pre-drilled mounting holes on the 'feet' of the new motor - put a couple of spacers between and then took a simple 1" tall 'S' bracket for the other side with a spacer underneath. (see pic) I think it will work out great, but I'll know for sure tomorrow when I go install it in the machine. My WD-10 evaporator fan motor crapped out on me, so I'm in the process of replacing it right now. I won 3 motors off ebay a couple years ago, but they all look like that one and I was having a time figuring out just how to mount it properly. I also have to replace the fan blades, as they rusted onto the shaft and were destroyed while taking them off the old motor. I think SJW has the blades and a mounting adapter for that motor onto the WD-10, but I haven't decided whether or not to make my own or go with that one. Let us know how it works out!
