I have found a Vendo changer but the slug rejector is missing.  Does anyone happen to know if this rejector is the same as some other Vendo machine or was it it unique to the changer.

The rejector in a VCC is unique to the VCC. Other model rejectors will work for directing the coins to the coin block, but you will not have the scavenger function. In other words - if a coin gets stuck, you would have to open the changer up to manually scavenge the rejector. If it was an original rejector, you could simply pull the arm down to scavenge the rejector.

Perhaps the only difference is the "arm" and this can be fabricated...
I'll take a peek into my manual and see if the slug rejector is pictured for reference and get back... I do not have an original to do an A/B comparison. I would like to believe they are very similar except for the scavenger functionality as Tom has noted is different.

The early model changers used a 232 model NRI rejector and the later model changers used a 4900 series rejector (I think it was a 4917 model). The roller arm is the main difference, but there are actually several. Both the original rejectors had a bubble level mounted above the dime scavenger. The nickel path was restricted on both forcing the nickel (if inserted) to get stuck. The rejector's cover plate has a cutout so it will fit in too, but this can be done easily.
I have been collecting the 200 series rejectors so I can make it cost effective having the roller arm reproduced. So far I have about five of them.

I was watching a late model VCC on EBay and it had a 278 rejector in it. Was that most likely the rejector from an early model. Would that rejector have the same issue or would it work on both an early and late model. Good to know if I ever see one that has the incorrect rejector.

Was it the coin changer in Scottsdale, AZ?
If so, it looks like it has the correct rejector in it. I don't know how you could read 278 though?
It had more issues than that - it was missing the 'Empty' flag and related linkages - good luck finding those parts!  :upside:

The one in NH that was supposedly restored by Fun-Tronics (I didn't think Steve Ebner did restorations for other people-unless it was the new owner Rod that did it) has the correct rejector in it, but looks like it is missing part of the the 'Empty' flag linkage. That should be an easy fix though if the rest is there.

The rejectors are interchangable between the two models - just not 'correct'.

Yep, that was the one. I didn't think it would go that high with those missing parts. Plus it didn't even hit the reserve. I was hoping to restore it and eventualy come accross those parts. I'm guessing not likely anyone from here would have them  :hopefull:... Thanks for the heads up.

When looking through the eBay completed listings, I saw you won an early model VCC on a stand.
While not an original pole mounting plate or stand, it looked like a pretty good adaption.
Not sure what the rejector problem was - Have you gotten it yet? Did you get it working?

I didn't get it yet. I'm hoping it's just something simple (like not enough nickels in it)... If not you'll hear about it.

I found the same base in Pepsi with the Pepsi cap. Someone could be creative and make a papsi VCC. Not that I would, but some Pepsi lover might.

My manual is for the early version and is exactly like the one pictured in the Photo Gallery by Collecture.
What's interesting is the price for a slug rejector in 1948, $9.29! A stand was only $12.50!

The last original VCC slug rejector I had for sale was from a late model changer and sold for $150+

A Standard Top Assembly (complete with mechanism) for a Vendo 23 was $29.10 - the Deluxe Top was $37.50.

BTW - I had an uncommon VCC insert repopped (copied from an original I had - see pic).

I got my VCC today. I fixed the quarter problem the return lever was stuck and it didn't have enough nickels  :laugh: I'm real glad it was something simple.

As for the dimes....  :help: It looks like the magnet is too messed up. Anyone have one I can use?? are they the same on other slug rejectors??

The dimes on mine go right though, and the magnet has cracks in it and moves slightly to the touch, so I think it's cracked in a few places where it mounts. Anyone know if that can be fixed or if I can get it somewhere? Thanks again.

The dime magnet is the same on most of the old rejectors (LD and SD). There an uncommon magnet from the 200 series and some small door models, but they are interchangable for the most part.

        I like that stand on the Pepsi changer. Looks a lot like Curtis's restoration work.

I'll never understand these "Buyer's Premiums" that auction houses have been using. They should be called "Buyer's Penalty". Also, IMHO I believe it should be the owner of these items that should be charged the fee rather than the buyer.

When i see a buyer's premium i walk away. I think they are just a ripoff. They get a percentage of the sale and then get the buyer's premium on top of that. I would never hire an auctioneer that charged a buyer's premium

And note they charge $222 an hour to  prep for shipping. 
 Yeah,  2 hrs to   tape the box,  1 hour to  pull  bubble wrap off the roll.  :veryangry:
