Title: A Rare Look at the Vendo Decapper Post by: coke_and_stuff on October 20, 2008, 11:13:56 pm One of the few machines that most will never see, So few made and very rare. It was alot larger than I thought it would have been. Pictures were taken at the Schmidt Coca Cola museum Elizabethtown, KY. What do these rare birds sell for when they do surface??

Title: Re: A Rare Look at the Vendo Decapper Post by: Larry on October 21, 2008, 06:56:57 am Very impressive. It would be nice if they had a working model.
Any idea on how many survivors? Title: Re: A Rare Look at the Vendo Decapper Post by: pinballdude on October 21, 2008, 11:39:45 am I was just at the museum last month.
What's your opinion of the museum? I was told that there is 80,000 pieces of Coca-Cola memorabilia in that museum and that is ONLY 1 percent of what is owned by the museum. This is the third building of the museum (the original was in the bottling plant) and eventually some world famous architect was designing the final building. Supposedly, people will come to see the guy's building for who he is just as much as to see the museum. The collection was very nice. Nicely laid out overall very impressive. Alot of Rare and hard to find stuff. I counted three 1908 Tin tacker signs. One in Spanish, One like the one I have with the straight sided bottles on each side, and lastly the version with just the one bottle on the left. The Hutchinsons were very cool a complete collection of all the Coca Cola Hutchinson bottles is a huge sucess in any collection. The soda machines were nicely laid out with alot of rare stuff, Icy O, Glascock, to name a few. And the two signs when you walk in blew me away I love the big signs. Overall a good experience and I will defenatly do it again.

Title: Re: A Rare Look at the Vendo Decapper Post by: collecture on October 22, 2008, 01:15:28 am Very impressive. It would be nice if they had a working model. Any idea on how many survivors? That looks pretty darn clean inside...I bet it does work! Or do you mean that they should use it? I would have no idea if it is complete! Title: Re: A Rare Look at the Vendo Decapper Post by: Larry on October 22, 2008, 09:02:32 am I think they should use it. Maybe not on a daily basis, but at least once in awhile for demonstrations or specialty tours. I'd pay to see it work. :hopefull:
I think Alan Huffman has one or two of them. Title: Re: A Rare Look at the Vendo Decapper Post by: sodaworks on October 22, 2008, 10:51:19 am There was one that sold a few years ago that was in a warehouse fire. It sold for like 25k.
Title: Re: A Rare Look at the Vendo Decapper Post by: SIGNGUY on October 22, 2008, 02:22:09 pm I know Dale Larouche had a couple at one time, I think he sold one to Jeff Walters and the other not sure? but I've talked with Dale about it and he had it all fixed up and working, not restored but working. said it was pretty cool to see and the MN chapter of the Coca-Cola Club got to see it working up at Dales place when he used to restore machines.

And I have been to the Coca Cola museum a couple of times. I would recommend it to anyone traveling in or around the Lousiville area. Lots of machines and signs, along with all those little promotional items Coke has released over their many years in bussiness.
It is not a super large museum but it is well worth the time driving the short distance from Lousiville in order to see it, at least to an enthuseist like me. Excellent pictures. |
