Title: What do I have? Post by: pinballdude on October 12, 2008, 03:53:16 pm About 25 years ago, I bought at an auction, a Dr. Pepper cooler. It looks like a Glascock, Jr.
but is made by Globe Manufacturing of Sheboygan, Wisconsin. I do not see Globe listed as a manufacture in either this website or Waters' books. It is in rough shape (just the paint), but some clown painted over the panels. I would like to know if there have been reproduction panels or if there is any way to restore them. They cannot have the paint removed as it has already been attempted. Sure would be nice to have a somewhat restored embossed Dr. Pepper Cooler! The panels have the Good For Life brick logo. it is currently taken apart and has been for years. i ain't good w/pictures. maybe my son will help me. hoping for a cure to partially stripped inserts. don't know if they can be redone by a vinyl sign shop. Its not cheap but the end results are awesome!

Post by: SIGNGUY on October 13, 2008, 09:27:39 am Depending on what the panels have been painted over with, if it's a common latex paint, I'd just try soaking them in water first and see what happens, then try maybe a simple green solution ..something light at first to see what happens?
it might come off.. Like Joey said, there are some really great sign restorers out there and might be worth getting them professionall redone, by repainting them.. I wouldn't try a vinyl on an original embossed sign.. if you wanted something for temporary then see if you can get a shop to create something for you.. but that will be expensive to. My vote.. see if you can strip the paint (top coat) and see whats underneath. Good luck someone might have a better idea on some remover. Title: Re: What do I have? Maybe soak a corner in some and see what happens? |
