Title: What kind of screw is this?!!! Post by: bmw90w on September 15, 2008, 07:45:17 pm Can anyone tell me what kind of tool I need for this type of screw? My machine is full of them, and I haven's seen these before! Thank you
Title: Re: What kind of screw is this?!!! Post by: collecture on September 15, 2008, 08:27:01 pm Clutch head screw - available at Ace (as a screw bit).
You can get one out with a small slotted screwdriver and match it up at the store Title: Re: What kind of screw is this?!!! Post by: bmw90w on September 15, 2008, 09:41:36 pm Ill get one tomorrow. Thanks a lot! I tried to use a flat head, but it just stripped it out These screws are in really bad shape!
Title: Re: What kind of screw is this?!!! Post by: Eric on September 15, 2008, 10:07:47 pm ACE here in Missouri also carries these as a regular handled driver... though I wish they
came with a built in homing device... as I've bought 2 and have lost both!.. :darn: Title: Re: What kind of screw is this?!!! Post by: bmw90w on September 15, 2008, 10:10:34 pm you think sears will have them in a handled driver?

Title: Re: What kind of screw is this?!!! Post by: Marvin on September 16, 2008, 02:17:17 pm One of the only other places I have seen these type screws used is in a Holley carb. I thnk even the new ones you buy today have them. I have gotten them from my Snap on man.
I think someone on here said that old Corvettes used them also. Title: Re: What kind of screw is this?!!! Post by: Pat Pixley on September 16, 2008, 09:43:34 pm I bought one that is a handle one from my local True Value hardware
it was worth the $8.00 for the darn thing ( I hate those tork head's) and I have 4 more LaCrosse's to break down . Title: Re: What kind of screw is this?!!! Post by: bmw90w on September 16, 2008, 10:13:06 pm You used a tork to get them off is that what you mean? I found bits that will go in my drill or my ratcheting handle screwdriver. I will also look for the handle one though. Too much power and I will wear out the hole. I want to replace them with regular screws when it oes back together though. I am taking out the liner and bottle rack tomorrow. Then I have lots of body work to do. I will post pics of the carnage when the insulation is out.
Title: Re: What kind of screw is this?!!! Post by: coke_and_stuff on September 16, 2008, 10:24:19 pm alot of the old GM cars of the 50's and early 60's used the clutch head screws. I just picked up a 61 or 62 Chevrolet Apache this week and it has clutch head screws.
Joey Title: Re: What kind of screw is this?!!! Post by: Pat Pixley on September 17, 2008, 09:27:15 pm I also plan on going with a regular head screws , I had to drill out a few tork head screws on my first La Crosse and I probably will have to drill out a few on the others :darn: but that the price of the hobbie..
Title: Re: What kind of screw is this?!!! Post by: bmw90w on September 17, 2008, 09:57:19 pm Luckily for me I only had to drill out a few. Also lucky for me is they are all the same size. I have a much bigger problem than realized though, when I removed the liner tonight. The beltline rust is so bad, that one screw pushed through the metal. I am going to have to do a lot of work underneath the bottom breaker strip. Ill post pics when the insulation is out.
