Title: Interesting Mills candy machine similar to a Stoner
Post by: Larry on September 11, 2008, 08:42:38 am
I never saw one of these before.  I thought I would share it.  It's in pretty bad shape, but restorable.

Also, I am just curious if Stoner ever made a theatre six pull with fancy bottom trim, not a mirror, or is this a fantasy piece?  Either way, I like it and I am going to buy it.  Has anyone ever seen a Stoner like this??

Yes, Dan Cooney, aka Cooney Island Antiques made several of those for
Stoner 6 pulls.  I saw one locally sell for $900.00 last year

Where's Dan out of?  Is it Cooney or Coney?

I would just like the bottom trim piece.  Any contact information would be appreciated.

He is in California and it is Cooney.
Shop number is (818) 248-7824
Cell number is (818) 720-5326
Fax number is (818) 248-7329

He was at the Barrett Jackson Auto auction this past January and I grabbed one of his cards.

Thanks,

I"ll give him a call.  Any email address?  It's easier to send a picture than try to explain something over the phone.

Any email address?

There is not one on the business card, but I would bet he has one he can give you over the phone.

FYI the guy I am buying the machine off of wanted $2,500.00.  A bit steep, especially if I can make my own from parts.  I haven't got a hold of that guy yet, just got back from the hospital.  My kid wiped out on his mini bike.  He's fine.

I have two Stoner Jrs. and two Stoner gum machines with the bracket that I have been working on.  I put $1,900.00 in one and $2,300.00 in the other, so his price isn't really that far off.  I am planning on selling the candy and gum machines together.  I painted them yellow.  I was excited by the color because 90% of my machines are red.  Go figure, his machine is red. :tounge:

That piece would be easy to make. A local machine shop could ball mill in the lines fairly cheap. Just a thought.

Just looked at the mills machine. I like it. I wished it was closer.

Well I talked to the creater of the Stoner and it was Dan Cooney.  He said that he quit making Stoners, and sold off his parts at the Chicagoland show a few years back.  He described the machine perfectly without seeing it.  It is a fantasy piece that he created.  He made about thirty of these plus he said he has restored thousands of Stoners.  Curtis has some catching up to do to beat that mark.  He no longer deals with Stoners.  So the question is, do I buy the red one or not?

56 minutes left and the price is $345--seems like a deal.  Wish I was close too!
