Title: Rubberized Undercoating?
Post by: bmw90w on August 07, 2008, 10:37:23 am
Hey guys another newbie here! Ive got a cs-96 and was reading about undercoating inside of the frame. What should I do with the galvanized steel tub that has a few small holes in the bottom? Can I put undercoat on the back of that as well? I was going to shoot th einside of it with the hammerite after using bondo on the holes. I was just wanting to plug it up from the back so it doesnt leak out into the insulation. Any tips? Also what kind/size of insulation goes back in the door and body? Thanks for your help. I will post pics when done.

Welcome to the site  Glad your here .
As far as your tank I have seen were A memberhas had a bottom pan
made and welded into place,I have also heard a member using fiberglass,
I have had one brazes the hole in and hammer toned over the tank.
You don''t want to use bondo it wont hold up to the temp. inside the tank
and you will be back to square one again next year.

As far as the Rubber coating the bottom of the tank yes do it it can only help,
you may want to do the bottom inside of the cabinet .

It depends on what you want out of the machine. If you are doing a full restoration I would have a new piece of metal cut and weld it in. If you are just wanting to make the machine functional for use in your home I would use fiberglass. It all comes down to what you want out of the machine and what tools you have readily available. I have used fiberglass before and after sanding and painting your couldn't tell it had been done. Just make sure that the drain is still the lowest point of you will have a flooding problem.
