Title: Paint Cost - Vendo H90B 6-10-2008
Post by: SRock on June 10, 2008, 10:36:54 am
Here is an update on paint cost for my current project:

Vendo H90B.

The case is in 'good shape'.  Standard rusted floor pan which will need to be replaced due to many holes in it.  Some rust through the case in the back of the unit and one side but only a few holes.

Side of the case was dented badly so had to shrink the metal there and will have the body shop bondo it up to make it look better.

The whole machine is apart, lining is out nothing left but the pieces.

Costs:

Sand Blast = $250
Paint, Base Coat, Clear Coat = 1,800 including all body work described above.

This is a really costly project as I can't do the paint or body work on my own.  I'll probably have $2,500 in it by the time I'm done... good thing that it's being done for me and not for resale!

The message here is clear, be careful of what you get into... it can be really, really expensive!

You may want to shop around on you next project   I was having my machines sand blasted
but now I've start to get my machine's soda blasted ( no heat no warping)and the cost is $90  and the paint  work is costing me up to $350 to $400.

So you may look around on you next projected

When you (like me) can't do a lot of the work yourself, sometimes the best route is to pass on the beat up machines and look for a nice straight model that doesn't need a lot of body work.

And like Pat said - shop around - tear the machine down and take it around to different shops.

Where are you located? The price you just posted you can have that machine fully restored!

Definately shop around, your getting raked over the coals... I had blasting , body work, prep and paint on 3 81's for less than your overall costs...  Not to make you feel bad but, just so you know for your next project.
Good luck
