Title: 7up Ideal 55 Post by: zadd on May 21, 2008, 05:59:26 pm I finally got it painted and it looks awesome. I will post pic in a few days. Question . When doing a full restoration would you guys put it a new more efficient compressor or repaint the original ?
Title: Re: 7up Ideal 55 Post by: MoonDawg on May 21, 2008, 07:02:22 pm The original will last longer than the 8 to 10 years you will get from a modern compressor.

Anyway I know how you guy's like photo's. Pat Pixley may be able to help with the stainless steel 1/2 round trim for the front edge of your slider, he had one fabricated for his Ideal / Orange Crush 55 Title: Re: 7up Ideal 55 Post by: MoonDawg on May 22, 2008, 08:57:56 pm That thing looks so awesome, you don't need any chrome! :happydrinkers:
But I hear you, the stainless sometimes is scratched, dented or has holes drilled for a hasp lock. It's easy enough to roll new stainless steel but attatching it is a problem. It can be rolled and still have a lip to fold under the gasket, but the lower part has to be bonded to the machine, and if it is not flush it will snag when cleaning! :darn: No one that I know of has a replacement for that reason. Hat's off to you for such an accurate painting of the logo......bubbles and all! :drinking: Title: Re: 7up Ideal 55 Post by: zadd on May 22, 2008, 09:25:11 pm Thanks. The original painted logo was all there so I just taped and repainted each color and cleared over all of it. I painted the bubbles with a circle stencil. I was able to get a perfect match on the red and save the original US PAT. I then taped up the 7up logo and based the machine white, removed the tape and re cleared the whole machine in three coats of ceramic clear. You can't see or feel any tape lines. The original rolled stainless I have is fine I just need the 1/2 round stick that goes under it.

Title: Re: 7up Ideal 55 Post by: zadd on May 23, 2008, 06:00:25 am If it looks good on your machine its fine with me. I was going to get a new lid for the machine and just polish the stainless rolled trim piece, so if you think it will look good together beggar's can't be choosy. The one I have has small dents on it and I want everything to look new. Let me know thanks.
Title: Re: 7up Ideal 55 Post by: zadd on June 03, 2008, 08:59:00 pm Where can I get a new piece of stainless rolled ? I can't find the small half round molding so I guess I will look in to getting a new piece without the lower trim holes . Any Ideas ? :help:

Title: Re: 7up Ideal 55 Post by: MoonDawg on June 04, 2008, 10:14:47 am I will be parting this machine out soon. Is this trim something you can use?
Title: Re: 7up Ideal 55 Post by: Pat Pixley on June 04, 2008, 10:18:33 am Glen, I think the 85 trim is longer than the 55 trim?
Title: Re: 7up Ideal 55 Post by: zadd on June 06, 2008, 07:18:44 pm I hate to admit it but I messed up when I painted the machine. I was looking at my photo's I took before restoring it and remembered it had a green triangle around the 7up . Back to the paint shop next week. Should be an easy fix though . Just sand down the center section of the machine and lay out the green and re clear.
Title: Re: 7up Ideal 55 Post by: MoonDawg on June 07, 2008, 10:01:21 am I'm thinking some green vinyl striping tape would achieve the same look.
Title: Re: 7up Ideal 55 Post by: zadd on June 09, 2008, 06:18:37 pm I had to paint them on . Did it today, will post pic later .
