Title: My Buy of the Week
Post by: cormy on April 14, 2008, 01:28:33 pm
Local purchase (Philly). Took some work but the price was right. Did some research, this was the predecessor to the modern day AAA Club.

I love the old gas signs. Your automobile club sign is both unique and rare. I would hold on to that if I were you.

The first pic is the sign after alot of scrubbing, the second is the original. The sign is porcelain and had some deep rust stains, some remain but hard to see in pic. I also applied a coat of Feed-n-Wax.

The woman I bought this off of said she found it in a vacant lot some 30 years ago. Probably an old site of a service station that was torn down.

I really like it and plan on keeping.

Great Porcelain sign.  If that second picture is the same side as the other and you got it that clean, I think I would leave it alone because it looks great.  I think sometimes we try to make this stuff to clean and take away some of the history.

Great Keeper...Congratulations.
