I'd think that the fact that it's missing all the inner workings, might scare some bidders... and maybe this could have had at a decent price...
I most likely will not be bidding on this , but I have V56 Bottle stacks, and shelves, and maybe a coin mech that could work in it... if anyone needs one...

GOod luck

I wonder why it is on a Pepsi cabinet?? Do you think it may be a fake?

Boy that is different  the Barq's is embossed and we all
have seen those wonderful welding jobs  where they weld the
picnic cooler side in and try to pass it off ,
but this does not look to bad , it's kinda cool 8)

mmm looks kinda yummy to GP here in England, fake or not.

yep its missing a lot of stuff & its an electric model, not crank

if its fake, but you like it, i suppose you have to weigh up how
much time, effort and cost it would be to make your own fake
front door versus the final bid price from the seller & take into
account how much the extra parts would cost to purchase,eg
bottle stack coin mech etc.

to me the front door of any soda machine is the most critical.

this looks great to me and if i had another machine of the same
model with all the bits i would be swapping the barqs door over
onto my other machine the same day and have a complete
barqs embossed 56 st is it?

if its real and original [ i have no idea on this i'll leave it to the
experienced guys on the board to advise on that], i'd also buy it
so long as its possible rarity value wouldnt take it out of my price
band

my threepenny bits worth

all the best GP

It looks just like the R C transitional machine Josh used to have, only with
Barqs letters welded in.  But from what machine did those embossed letters come
from?
Well compared with the letters on the Ideal 55 In Walters book, these could not
have been stamped from the same machine, also the logo was copied slightly different.

Instead of welding, I have seen embossing created by using layers of vinyl letters
stacked and then clearcoated, so this door may have been someones experiment ..........
anyway, it seems like a risky investment to me

Wow!.. Jeff Walters talks about the embossed Barq's 81s in his books.... He thinks
it may be possible that there are embossed RT out there due to this ( unlike the OC and Nesbitt's and Hires 81s) Said he has seen only a couple of these embossed ST first hand...
This is probably the real deal! very cool.... Have to watch this one.

I think it's a 81 looks too tall for a 56 by the looks of the bottle door.

Yes its an 81.

Glen, I still have that transitional RC 56. It is the only machine that I kept. It is waiting quietly for me at my Moms in Ohio. I painted it red and white to make a Coke machine for easier resale but when I moved a C55 fell over on it on the trailer so the paint was destroyed so it never got sold. I am glad I didn't sell it. I plan to strip it and paint it yellow and do it in a 50's theme RC. Its generic though.

It sure is interesting though... guess I didn't realize it was an 81 either till I took a better look at it...pretty cool... now my interest has peaked a little more for some reason... maybe cause it still sitting at $500.00 Doubt it will stay there?
so who's going for it???
I might put a bid in....  :oh:

It was me . The guy had it on the local craigslist for I think around $700 and then the next day he changed his post to $1200. I emailed the guy after talking with you guy's and offered $400. With no response ?  :glare:

The guy emailed me and said if it didn't sell on ebay he would sell it for $450. I guessing someone will bid at least the $500 starting bid . If someone want's it go for it.

I'm really on the fence on this one... OK help me out here... will a bottle stack from a RT 81 fit this square top 81? I know it is mechanical and this is electric,, but I'm sure I could figure that out or jsut keep it free vend? , how bout shelves??? will standard 81 shelves fit?
for some reason I'm actually interested in this machine?

Someone should ask him to show a photo of the backside of the "embossed" door. If there are welding marks, you know it is fake. If this was a round top, I would definately say it is  a fake. As you all know, I collect Round Top 81's and I have never seen a real one outside of the 4 embossed orginials (coke, pepsi, RC, 7-up). I have seen some very well done fake ones though. OC 81 round top fake ones are out there so buyers beware!!!

trans. 81s show up as Pepsi from time to time.... I would wait on one of those they don't go high... I bought a Pepsi 81 2 years ago at a yard sale for $75... parted it out....
I would bet this is the real deal... looks like only the Barq's is embossed...

I emailed the seller and asked if the words Drink and "It's Good" or embossed and he has not emailed me back. I'll keep you all posted.

I believe he also said that Vendorlator across the bottom was embossed as well? if that is so... I would definatly think it's the real deal..

I'm going to bid and I think Brian can help me out on getting it up here?

Thanks
John

The guy told me he was told it's a 56 not a 81 by it's height?

He emailed me back and the words Braq's and Vendorlator or embossed, but the words Drink and "It's Good" are not.

High bidder on the machine could ask that only the door be shipped to him,
since it could probably be hung on any other squaretop 56.

To be 'correct', I think the VMC cabinet should have louvres on the side and most Vendo's did not have these vents. Not that it couldn't be found, but not common.

Very interesting - I love "mystery" machines like this...

Shipping is getting expensive with the price of gasoline  :veryangry:

We'll.
I have a way to get it from there to me, without a problem from a fellow member on this board.. thank you,
SO the big question is will a Vendo 81 bottle stack fit in this machine... he says it's 58" inches high which I would guess makes this a square top 81? not a 56?

I have extra mechanical bottle stacks, jsut needs some shelves and walla.. a nice "Free vend" machine?

this will be fun to watch.
John

The door liner does not appear to have been ever removed for welding and
the lower inside of the door looks original dark blue.

John,
If you get it - it needs total restoration anyway - why not turn it into an early transitional machine with mechanical stack and crank handle mech and all.

that sounds cool.. probably wouldn't be that hard... we'll see..

Looking at the 'Barq's' embossing pic -
In between the B and Q under the 'ar', it looks like "Trade Mark Reg." is embossed also.

So do you guy's think it's worth it or not. I haven't heard from the guy yet . Thought I might email him tonight if you guy's think it's worth messing with. I'm thinking about buying a Jacobs 26 instead .The one on ebay. The guy wants $980 to sell it local. What's it worth complete and cooling?

Title: Re: Interesting Braq's Machine
Post by: loman4ec on April 03, 2008, 06:00:01 pm
I would buy the Barq's machine over a Jacobs anyday. Jacobs are fairly common. I have never seen another Barqs 81

Title: Re: Interesting Braq's Machine
Post by: MoonDawg on April 03, 2008, 08:30:30 pm
So do you guy's think it's worth it or not.

Josh is right! Jacobs is not high on collector's lists

A Jacobs might be round cornered, but it's not easy to display, it's non-embossed and is
only a single vend Coke machine.

The Barqs might be a square corner machine, but it's a rare embossed square machine.
It will also be multi-vend when complete, and will be much easier to restore than a Jacobs. Not many flat top machines will make it to the history books...........but this one will.

He got no bids in the auction, I'll bet he would rather entertain a $300.00 offer than
re-list it again.   :drinking:
Go get it today, that Jacobs will  be available all year.

Hey Guys,
I bought the Machine last night after the auction closed... I missed the bidding as I usually wait till the end, but got busy and missed it.
I made him an offer on the Barqs and he accepted and I paypaled him today.
Brian Is picking it up for me next week and bringing it up my way when he comes to pick up a few machines near me.

i'll post plenty of photos when I get it...

I'm glad someone got it... I couldn't understand all the hesitation...

As the SAS say "He who hesitates is lost.."

Well done John I think its a smashing machine.. With your inventory you should have that
in ship shape in next to no time...
